Brakes are Squealing like a City Bus!!!

If you heard mine with track pads, it might change your perspective. I'm not saying you should be satisfied with it, but it's not unusual. The anti-squeal compound would probably fix it, or, a different pad, with ceramic being consistently the quietest. They are not satisfactory for aggressive use, but for typical street driving they are fine.
You asked about removing the pads. It's easy, but because of the noise dampers attached to the back of the factory pads, it takes a little time, as you have to remove the calipers to get the pads out with the dampers attached. Some folks have reported success with separating them with a putty knife or such; I couldn't do it that way. I removed the dampers and threw them away, so pad changes are quick and easy now. Plan on a couple hours. If you are going to apply some anti-squeal goop to them, I would leave off the factory noise dampers. All they do, is prevent the pad from shifting when the car changes direction, since the rotor rotation will move the pad to the opposite stop. I never hear it, but then a little squeal doesn't bother me either, so just be aware you might hear a slight noise when you begin backing out of your garage.

As you will see both here and on Rennlst the majority of the many memebers are not having squeal issues with their stock brakes. Having owned many Porsches over the years this 07 997S was the first to have noisy brakes. MB also tried to give me the same "it's normal" story until I got them to change out the pads and rotors when the squeal finally went away for good.
