How much off MSRP
he wasnt asking for advice, he already bought the car, i think he was just trying to make himself feel better after finding out that his 3K discount was not much. i guess he found out about this forum too late to get the bigger discounts that are available.
i did try to make him feel better by saying i didnt get any discount in LA in 05, but he was just in denial that there were better deals out there.
darren, how about as a parting gift, when you ban someone give them an invitation to "funcars___.com"

I'm not going to bother doing the digging for someone else, but if anyone would like a WEALTH of information on 997/997S discounts feel free to start with this thread here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...d.php?t=269858
You'll find a link to a dozen other threads on discounts, as well as some summary information I put together as I read the other threads and copied down information. I've put a copy of that summary below:
Some sample discounts ($):
$3k (Washington St.)
$3.5k (Georgia)
$3.5k (Florida)
$4k (Maryland)
$4k (Ohio)
$4k (Louisiana)
$4k - $5k (New York)
$5k (Texas)
$5.5k (Oregon)
$6k (Tennessee)
$6k (Missouri)
$6k (New Jersey)
$2.8k - $7.5k (California)
$7k (DC - launch car)
Some sample discounts (%):
4% (Michigan)
4% - 5% (New York)
5% (Arizona)
6% (Ohio)
6% (Tennessee)
3% - 6.5% (Illinois)
6.5% (Mississippi)
7.4% (Florida)
Here are some CA-related quotes from this thread alone:
$4K off, or about 6%, in Northern California. Ordered car. [user ds2k1]
2006 997C2, used 9.9k mi, off the lot, last day of the year (new years weekend)
arctic silver/black leather
bose, xenon, heated seats
5% and wouldn't budge any further [user oalvarez, LA]
I spent several weeks searching the forums, talking to people, and then talking to dealers. This thread in turn prompted many, MANY PM's to me which provided more information. At one point, I had a list of over 100 deals which I summarized into discount ($) per state and discount (%) per state, which is how I got the table above.
Needless to say, I have a pretty decent idea about what is possible and what is not. I've passed that advice and information on to several others and have assisted in about a dozen deals - all at a discount. One dealer sent some presents when our baby was born as a "thank you". The bottom line is that customers (i.e. the market) set the price, not dealers. They sell for what we are willing to pay. If more people are willing to pay sticker, deals will be harder to find - and vice versa.

Here are some quotes:
Just ordered a 2007 C4S July build from a Bay Area (ca) dealer. Best I could get through a buying service was $2500 off MSRP. [user PeakOil, dealer Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City]
You'll always pay too much there! Try Steven's Creek in Santa Clara (408 247 1655), ask for Hank or Bob and if you want tell him I referred you. You can do better. [user Colm]
Yes, try Stevens Creek Porsche. I got mine from Tom Macfee last Christmas and got a good discount. Their pricing is very upfront. I compare it with all the Bay Area dealers and still Stevens Creek still offer me the best price. Give them a try. Mine was a order car as well. [user Stephenkng]
I ordered and purchased my car from Newport. They did not move a cent off of the MSRP. The sales guy was nice, but there was no chance of anything less than MSRP. Hoenn Porsche offered $2K off of MSRP...not bad, but at least they moved. The sales guy (Roger, as I recall) was very personable. I would have bought from there if my order was not already placed [user turkish_eyebrow]
I think 3K off is doable in So. CA. PM me if you need some help. [user 996toomey]
Well...I did it...thanks everyone for all of the input...I ordered my car yesterday..and did OK on the price..especiallly since it was done here in Southern Calif. Had to have it my way.So ordering was the only way...Anyone looking for a Very Nice 98C2S....Dane [user Dane k.]
$2500 off MSRP at Autogallery in the SFV. [user Legalkis in N. LA County]
I think SoCal is tighter than some other markets so prices have stayed pretty firm. But there is always room for some discount and I think the current ranges would be 2.5% to 5%, with 5% or more being a very good deal at the moment. [user jcnesq in Los Angeles]
Those are a few I grabbed that mentioned CA specifically. Did I mentioned that I only browsed 3 of the 12 linked threads? Did I also mention many of these threads were from 2005 when the 997 was new and the market was tight? Everyone agreed that CA is tougher than other parts of the US, but that buying later in the sales year eased the pressure on orders and on-lot cars.

Dave
I have found a few NEW 997 TT on the lot with decent options...prices around $132k. I have NOT attempted to price them out yet. Just about anything is possible with $$$ and I wondered if a 5-7% discount on these is even reasonable to expect?
My free time sucks and I have no connections. Any of you that do the "brokering" thing? On other vehicles, I found these guys to be great. They know who to contact and get great deals. One even had it out the door with NO dealer doc fees. Last year I found three NEW CGTs with 10 miles on the clock and priced at $379k.
Prefer a heavily-optioned silver 997 TT coupe with best audio, nav, trim. Any deal would be cash...no trades, no loans, just a briefcase full.

I went shopping for a C4s cab. yesterday. At Carlsen, they are taking $12k off a 2006 C2s cab. (Msrp $104K), but I like the C4s cab. more, so I offered them $8k off for 2007 c4s cab on their lot and they said they would only sell for $2k off Msrp. They also have a black on black 2007 997tt with 3000 miles and the original msrp is $126k and I ask them for $8-10K off (I figure for 20-30K more I could have a car in the "super car" category). And they said they will sell it for $2k over Msrp. , I would have taken it for $5k under ( I was so disaapointed.)
So I drove down to Rector, they have a silver and black C4s cab. (msrp $106k) they are willing to sell for $5k off, I think if I push harder I might get another $1k off but then they will only take my 02 CL 500 for $27K.
I think I will pass for now.

I just got back from the only local dealer here in Idaho; put down the spec white with sand beige int, sport exhaust, rear wiper, full leather seats... came to 92,600. Got to the negotiating table, I asked for 5% off... they said, "No, we dont have to discount; we are allocated 82 cars a year, and all the slots for our allocated cars are always full".
He said, "Germany is going to shut down on July 7th for 3 weeks, everyone at the factory goes on vacation, the factory is re-tooled for the new '08 models. They come back to work and are building "08's... I can't even get another car until September, I would have to really pull some strings to get you that car". I said, "I didn't mean to inconvience you".
We went back to the 5% issue, he said "nope"; I said, "have a nice weekend"
I'm a fairly impulsive guy, but for a hundred grand, I think I can afford to shop around

thanks for the info. I will be contacting a couple dealers on Monday about their in stock MY07 911 TT...both in the $140s with the PCCB. Will see what reaction I get to a discount. After the laughing is all over, I will post the info including asking price, offered price, etc. These are east coast dealers.
Carlsen vs Stevens Creek Discount
I spent some time at Carlsen, I was told only 2 K off MSRP, they gave me a bit of attitude and some weird pressure. Too bad - my work is within walking distance.....
Went to Stevens Creek, they dialed me in with 5 % off MSRP on an ordered car without any probs or hesitation. C4S coupe. They only requested a small deposit on the order - I guess their way of making sure I was committed.....
Been to Rector - the salesmen were cordial and professional.....
