I should get the replacement today or tomorrow and will re-install this weekend.
I'm going to move the mic and will let you guys know what happens. If I can figure out how to remove the steering wheel cover, i'll take a look and take some pics

Nine thousand views and 210 posts and we've yet to see the elusive Tooki. Does it really exist? Does it have big feet? We hear it lurks behind PCM's, under PCM's but no one has spotted it...

Well here it is, caught on film

Or is it this?

New Tooki arrived and works fine. Different number displays on BT iphone 004D, vs 038 something. Not sure what that means.

Anyways took the opportunity to investigate mic placement. Mine had been mounted by the overhead light console. I moved it to the OEM mic location -and yes there is room to put it there if you want to.

The pics are below in case you want to move your mic. Opening the top of the steering wheel cowling is easy: two screws accessed from the bottom with a number 10Torx. The top just lifts off -actually couldn't believe how easy that part was. The pics show the square black OEM bose mic on the left. The 666 mic, if you had that option, is supposed to be mounted on the right but that port is open since i don't have the OEM phone (you can see the molded plastic tabs)

Fished the mic wire using the good 'ol coat hanger - there is plenty of room to feed it into the foortwell. Then velcro'd the tooki mic just below the mesh opening. The one thing I did but might not be necessary is that I removed some of the plastic tabs that are supposed to hold the OEM mic. This made it a bit easier to position the tooki mic.

So far this position appears to be as good as the overhead. Test calls worked fine. More testing will be done.

isn't your mic upside down?

upside down? yes. The only way to make it 'right-side up' would be to glue or velcro the dome-shaped head near the mesh. Does it matter? I guess those folks who are really handy could make a round opening in the plastic mesh and let the top of the mic poke through. I had to invert the mic to mount it to the underside of the housing using the velcro.

I'm keeping the mic were it is; i like the OEM look, not that the mic is that obtrusive. bottom line, callers say it works.

He's called using the Tooki and it sounded very good. My location by the map light gives some echo. I think the steering column is going to be the best location; maybe the porsche engineers actually had it right from the git-go.

I'm going to move mine there and/or see if i can place it under the OEM cover if there is enough room.

thank you for the pics!

i had the tooki installed last october. along with it, i had the ipod adapter and the sat radio (all from nav-tv) installed. there are issues with all the pieces. the tooki sometimes isn't recognized. also, i can only pull up about half of my phonebook. and my callers can't hear me very well. i also have the mic installed up near the dome light. i tried to update the tooki, but my laptop is a dell and the tooki would not recognize the bt from my laptop. i have a feeling that the sound is going to be tough because i have a cabrio. (lots of wind noise) i'm going to ask my installer to move the mic to the steering column. (thanks for the pics btw) is that mic you installed noise cancelling? how well would the noise cancelling feature work inside that steering column cover? are there any 3rd party manufactureers of mics specifically for these kinds of installations? is there a premium mic out there that would improve the performance? any advise on how to improve the tooki in a cabrio?

Interesting. I have my noise cancelling mike up high on the top of the windshield to the left of the dome light cover. My installer experimented with a variety of locations and determined that to be the best location with the least amount of echos.

BTW, bob, your last picture showing the mike under hte steering column is not showing. Maybe I'll move it down if you're not experiencing any signs of echo/reverbations. I like the clean look anyhow.

I would suggest contacting Nav-TV about the problems you are having with updating your Tooki. Some of the pre-November units (including my original unit) won't accept Bluetooth updating via a laptop. Nav-TV swapped out my unit free of charge.

I think I'm going to retract my previous thumbs-up for the OEM mic location for the tooki supplied mic for all you future installers. My thoroughly scientific testing seems to find that the callers are having a hard time hearing me when the car is moving. stationary is OK, but road noise is overwhelming the mic (?) when moving. So, maybe use the overhead map light area or on top of the steering wheel.

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow for some other work and will ask about the oem mic...

i just had the mic moved to the oem location. the tooki is a noise cancelling mic. i called my other cell phone and left a long message as a test. works great standing still. but when moving at even 25 mph, can't hear anything. not even faintly. it's as if the noise cancelling function is trying to fix the noise but i just a a lot of garble.

I still have mine up by the map light (see attached picture). It works well when standing still and also when driving top up (I have a 997 turbo cab).

I was hoping the OEM location would help top down, but based on your comments I think I'll leave it where it is. Thanks for the feedback!

I just got my Tooki today and have read this post over and over, but can't seem to make sense of how to connect the orange fiber cable. Could someone please post detailed instructions as to which fiber cables to connect where? What to disconnect from the car and where to reconnect, where the supplied tooki cable goes, etc. Thanks.
