I'm looking into getting a 67-69 Camaro, or a 70-72 Chevelle. I just wanted some of your opinions, especially from some of you who might have owned both.

 

Go with whatever car appeals to you the most. With these older cars you have to spend some time and money to make them handle and ride well. Chevelles have been climbing more in value but are still cheaper than Camaros on average. There are more performance suspension options for the Camaro by a wide margin and the used OEM/performance part market is much bigger as well so that is something to consider. Nice Chevelles are more rare to see on the street usually as well.

 

yea, i'm looking for a project. something I can have custom, I've driven both, and like both designs, but I can have 2 projects going on at once. I have been checking craigslist and have found quite a few chevelles around my area for really cheap ($7500 for a decent one).

 

Chevelle's can be found really cheap, and they both look good. For the money go with the chevelle..but If money was not a problem Camaro! Just my opinion.

 

why not a '69 chevelle? they can be had for a lot cheaper than a '70

never been a big chevelle fan, always thought they were too bloated (esp. when comparing the rear to the front)


66 chevelle though...........that i'd rock the **** out of!

 

1st gen Camaros are cool. '69 is the year to have resale value wise though.

I love '70 Chevelles, my buddies dad just sold a mint one hes had for years. Needed to be painted, but it sold in a matter of hours @ $10k on craigslist. He was getting calls for weeks, then we found it posted up on the internet for like $17k or something rediculous.

I think I'd rather go '69 Camaro. Yeah they've been done before, but the aftermarket is crazy for them. It would be a lot of fun to build one nicely.

 

I've owned 3 '69 Camaro's over the years, and can tell you that they do not ride nearly as well as a '70-'72 Chevelle does, since the Chevelle has a full frame under it (while the Camaro doesn't).

I have two Chevelles now, a '69 and a '70, and think you should consider a '69 as well if you like that body style.

id go with the camaro.. i think in the long run the camaro will always be worth more when done being redone and they look better

 

Missing some trim there

 

From a pure performance standpoint, the Camaro is far lighter to begin with. So automatically you have superior power/weight ratio, more nimble handling, etc.

I may be biased

 

Does this Chevelle look original to you? I can understand that comment if it had steel wheels with hubcaps or stock rims and no side exhaust! Its also missing the drum brakes, the carbureted motor, bench seats, sealed beam headlights and has about 150HP too much.

 

Its missing the part above the the grill, you meant to do that?

 

LOL, that piece wasn't installed because of the after market fiberglass hood. It was left up to the owner if he wanted installed. Now I know what you mean. Sorry. I thought you mean the wheel wells because they didn't want the trims installed.
