I did an article and drag test on a new 2010 Camaro SS this past weekend. It also has the launch control. Nothing beats a skilled pair of feet in terms of controlling the launch, but I can see how this addition will assist those who cannot improve their skills. To me, the launch control felt more like bog-control, it erred on the side of maintaining traction instead of allowing a minor amount of tire haze. I'd prefer the slight tire haze, it nets a quicker ET than bogging does.

They don't do standing starts at Nurburgring. All the records are rolling/flying starts.

 

Auto with launch control. Let's just take the driver entirely out of the equation when it comes to racing. "Yay, I can hold the steering wheel straight and lift off of the throttle when I pass the traps"

True, but that is exactly what "launch control" is for. 0-60 times and 1/4-mile.
