Interested in a Viper

Hi guys,

I'm looking to get into a viper. The 996 has been a great car, but I miss the feeling of hard acceleration, it just puts a smile on my face.

Anyway, I’m currently looking at the 2003's, I know they are putting out more power than their predecessors and I like the body style. However, I’m not married to the idea and would consider and '01 or '02 as well.

I’m looking for some advice/tips to aid me in my search, thing to look for, things to look out for.

Thanks in advance!

911 Turbo / GT2 will fix your needs. '01-'02 Turbo for example have dropped in price a lot.

If you're gonna check out the Gen II's, I'd look for signs of previous damage, check A/C, window motor/regulator function, go over any potential mods, see maintenance log, check the power steering bracket for cracks, note operating temps not going into the red.....there are a bunch of things, as there would be with any high performance vehicle of that age. Get up to between 55 & 80 and check for vibrations.

These cars are not the most refined, but more than make up for it with fun factor and thumbs ups. Great car IMO. If you want boost and don't want to forge the motor componentry go with a 96-99. If you want ABS get a 01-02. If you're planning on tracking it at all, make sure to get one with a roof.

I'd like to get the car to 500 rwhp. Is that a doable thing in the 96-99's without boosting?
And, if they are boosted, how much power can they safely make?

Thats funny, because I've been toying with the idea of purchasing another. It would have to be yellow or blue I think this time around. Who knows what I'll end up doing.

I really miss days like this:

Ugr was offering a warrantied kit for 850whp on a stock gen 2 non cream puff motor (up to 1999) so theres your answer. To get these cars over 500whp is pricey on all motor. They also love nitrous. Most of the stock motor gen 3 cars all run somewhere around mid 600whp on stock motors.
