I would say definitely in the next 2-3 years..........Ford is adding new models for their Mustang line, so that's a safe bet!

The Z06 doesn't compete against the Mustang, completely different class of car. Ford's addition to the Mustang and GM's answer with the upcoming Z28 is much more related.

2012 seems to be the magic number, however that means the prototype would pretty much have to be done by now. 2012 cars should be available to order mid to late next year.

I don't remember stating that the mustang and vette are competing or in the same class (sports car vs muscle car)........ I was merely throwing out only one example of another top selling HP car!

And from what I have read, the new Z28 is going to be a monster and the mustang (in any trim) can't compete as of yet.

Isn't that the way it has almost always been?

May or June's Road & Track stated the new Vette C8 which was originally slated for this year 2013, however last year's reorganization with the goverment delayed the production. Autoweek has a different story; http://www.autoweek.com/article/2010...NEWS/100319875 When it does come out there new mid engine sounds like its going to be something.
I recently went to a Porsche driving experience and there new Cayman Spyder (mid engine design) that there testing at there Alabama track facility apparently is out perfromaning the GT3 and GT2 (not tested against GT2 RS yet) . This came from the Porsche Instructors so there are suprised and are not bias to any particular model.

Been hearing different stories from different sources... At first the release of the c7 was slated for 2012, then pushed back to 2013-14, then back to 2012.. Latest articles suggest a release in late 2012 for the 2013 model year. A lot of discussion regarding the mid engine setup, or even a possible v6 engine.. We will just have to wait and see I guess.

According to Autocar and reported on gtspirit.com, the C8 'Vette might come out around 2016, with a mid-engined V6 with turbo's (? twin), and a Saab-sourced double-clutch tranny able to handle 590 lb-ft.

So the C7 could be the swan song for the front-engined, pushrod V8.

Well, the only two things that are "official" is that it will have a 5.5 V8, and the coupe's will have a split rear window. That is from Ed Wellburn...everything else is just speculation.
