C6 Z06 ... are the reliable ?

I am torn between buying a 996TT or a C6 Z06. Anyone want to share an unbiased review on the reliability of a 2006-2008 z06. What are the main problems they produce? what are the cost of fixing these problems? Every super car has a flaw...

Forum wont let me edit the title ... I meant to type "they" not "the" ... I look dumb

06 and 07 have pretty good reliability, but the '08 model gets the TR6060 transmission, better steering feel, etc. LS7 is a stout motor and the '07+ model comes with the 100k powertrain warranty.

Maintenance cost is going to be the huge difference between the two. Chevy dirt cheap to maintain Porsche allot more. C6 Z06 is the best bang for you buck period in the sports car category, handling, brakes, torque, it's all there. About the only thing that most complain about is interior quality or the Stereotype of vette owership. We aren't all over 50, don't all wear gold chains, and have mullets

Good thing too about most vettes is they are garage queens, so you normally find low mile cars that have been taken good care off. No major problems with them aside from the roof recall and some other TSB's, but those are usually covered under warranty. I would opt for 2007 as you get more warranty and with the way prices are right now, you might even be able to snag an 08 for couple bucks more and get more warranty and a couple improvments over previous years.

+1 the Z06 is great bang for the buck, very reliable and a stout platform. I've had mine a year and no issues at all. And a warranty is a nice extra precaution in case you do have issues. The only powertrain issues that I have heard of are from the heavily modded cars. The 996tt is a great platform for modding reliable power, but the maintenance is going to cost you more than the Z06. I would check out both and decide which feels better to you. The 996tt would be a little easier as a daily driver if that is one of your decisions. Both are great cars but I still like the raw power of the V8! Good luck in your search!

thanks for the info . It is basically what I assumed.

Any serious costly issues associated with all them ? Ex. 996TT trannys are all subjected to a tranny problem called "2nd gear pop out". The NA 996 have RMS and IMS engine problems. Any serious issues like these plague the basic design of the c6 z06's that cant really be avoided and cost cash?

I own both a c5 z06 and a 996TT, the z has been very good and the c6 z has only gotten better, friends that have them love em. The rear main seal of the(sorry just notice you said na 996) 996 does not apply to to turbo because of the dry sump. The TTs motor are known to be really pretty bomb proof. Btw I bought my z06 with 71,000 miles unseen from a CA auction and have driven it almost 40,000 miles with no problems in 4years roadcourse trackdays included

Hey CrazyD,

Try a Viper on for size, and live on the dark side.

I would consider a viper... but the cost of parts and labour is a painful fact to face. They are so rare here in Canada...that it isnt practical to own one.

I had a Z06 for a period of time. It was a great car...a blast to drive and surprisingly comfortable. The only gripe I have are the seats...I wish they had better ones. IMO, they seem so flimsy for a car of this caliper.

as for the seats...

Were they comfortable for long trips? or were they just not good for holding you in a spot as you hammer corners?

If you are worried about parts and labor for a Viper then why even consider a 996TT? Sounds like you solved your own conundrum, congrats on choosing the Z06!

hahahha very true.

I most likely will be getting a z06. I have to take one for a drive etc etc this spring. Not many dealerships will allow test drive sin the winter where I live without you buying it first.

The problem with the seats is they went for comfort since most vette drivers in the C6 demo prefer that. The few that do road race or drive spiritedly complain because there is no support when you are in the corners. you litteraly are sliding sideways in the seat and using your knee to brace yourself against the door panel. I like all the refinements of the C6 but the only gripe which was also the case with the C5 is the seats. I can live with it though since it's such a great all around car.
