I heard the rear axles are weak on those , so if your planning to mod it ,i would upgrade those sooner than later

i heard they are pretty bad , the 06-07 ones are little better , but thats all i heard, bc i was looking to buy one before i bought the GTO

 

When you drive it, drive it with the stereo off. Listen for any clunking while shifting or and pinging at higher RPM's from the engine. I have an 05, unmodded, and absolutely love the car. Its my favorite DD ever, definitely more practical than my Supra TT (now my weekend car). Handles like a dream for a car that size, i like to say its light on its feet.

 

Darn! I was told that they fixed the diff problem for 06-07....

The 06-07 are definitely better options, much less wheel hop and stronger differentials.

 

don't ever EVER drop the clutch, despite being an 06-07. the diff will go boom. wheel hop is brutal which will also blow the diff.

other than that they're a great buy for the price. can't ever go wrong with a 4 door zo6. i own a 05.

 

Yea ive still never dropped the clutch, and dont plan on ever doing that either!

 

now if you had a 9" gforce diff with a 1 piece axle then throw 800rwhp to the pavement and paint it. a few guys on ls1tech have it and it's amazing.

 

Can you do anything to the stock diff to beef it up without going to a 9"?

 

get a gforce axle and some diff bushings i believe.
