For those with RMS Issues on the 997GT3/GT3RS

hey guys, so we've been doing a lot of LWF kits as of late and although it's not a "big-deal", the seeping/weeping coming from rear main seals is very common. Very. Almost all of the GT3/RS' we've seen have it. Porsche issued a TSB in case you didn't know.

When doing an RMS fix this is what you need:

997.102.264.91 for the shaft sealing ring (RMS as we know it).

You also need a spacer since it's a different size.
997.101.264.90 (spacer/ring)

All cars done from November 21st of 07 already have this ring/spacer in there.

To be honest, I prefer the design of the original 996TT and 996GT3 seal. it's a better design with a spring in there instead of that teflon crap which doesn't seal properly.... If you want to use that along with the ring (same size) it's: 999 113 426 41.

So any of you doing LWFs... this is the latest fix.

Just an FYI

Sure thing... it's not hard to do If you haven't had any drips of oil on the garage floor you might be fine. It might still be weeping/seeping out though. And I wouldn't worry too much in terms of even if you do... not like anything is going to happen other than a tiny bit of oil it's just that it makes for a nice excuse to do a LWF

I can see it now... All GT3/RS owners having camping out all night in the garage with a flash light waiting for the oil to drop

My pleasure. It's not that big a deal but that's what we're doing in ours. The style they want us to put in has proven in the 997 world that it doesn't work and still leaks. The 996TT/996GT3 hardly ever leaked by comparison.

Wouldn't this be a warranty issue. Can you request the dealer to use a 996TT/996GT3 RMS?

You would be right. say it were to leak again they would blame that so I would go with what the dealer recommends if you're doing a "warranty" job. Having said that I know that one will leak too so I'm going with one that's designed better for the application and has proven before not to leak. Hence that's what I'm doing on my one

Does porsche write to owners for TSB's? I thought TSB is more for Techs, not owners.

Pity that 997 GT3 series suffer RMS. That would affect resale I think.

Hi Alex,

The dealer installed the "updated" RMS/Spacer ring three months ago and it's now leaking. I would like to try the 996 TT RMS, I believe you mentioned that it would work with the "updated spacer ring". Can you please list (once again) the correct seal/spacer numbers?

Thank you!
