Anyone ever drive nowhere ?
Anyone ever drive nowhere ?
I don't know if I am the only one who looks at my car sitting in my garage and just feels like driving it . No destination . Just feel like driving it.
Sometimes I come home after only 5 minutes content. Other times I need more time and on rare occasions like to take apassenger but usually prefer to be alone with my car in those moments of driving bliss .
My favorite time ro drive seems to be in the late evening as the hot sun is cooler and visibility is still great . I also love the very early winter cold morning of crisp weather (if I am awake) .
I don;t like the rain or traffic or night but of the three if I had to choose one I might opt for traffic . As I sit there going nowhere on my drive to nowhere I do get to look at the other cars and then I appreciate mine even more .
Anyone else go though this? If so and you have a story ..here's the thread . BTW for those who have more than one car have you ever driven the other car and come home wanting to drive the 997tt even more ?

i really drove nowhere when i was breaking in my M6. i couldnt take it and told the wife i will be back and ended up driving from road atlanta area(where i live) all the way down to macon, ga just to get the 1200mile break-in over with
Did this once too often.
Home alone with DB9 sitting clean in the garage. Decided to go up highway 4 to Bear Valley and back, about 2 hours. Since it was a holiday I thought it would be best to not exceed 70. Maintained 70 for most of the drive thought the corners while slowing for towns and crowded areas.
All worked out fine until I came upon 3 cars in front slowing way down in corners and then speeding up on the straights. I came to a long straight and decided to pass all three. Using only ¾ throttle and shifting, I thought, would keep me from going ballistic while providing safety margin. This was the only time I broke 70 on the drive.
Once I cleared the last car I pulled over and slowed back down; reading 65 when I looked down. As I came over a rise there was a CHP standing at the side of the road waiting for me and one guy who followed in the pass. Usual question was; do you know how fast were you going? No because I wasn’t watching during passing but estimated maybe 80 tops. Officer said 106 and took my keys while he went and lectured the car behind me. Long wait and then I got a very long, over 30 min lecture. Finally returned my keys with a ticket for 65 in a 55. I was more than a little upset.
Went out next week and bought radar detector. All clean since.

Out of my nearly 5000 miles in my one year ownership I would say about 10 percent are these short 2 to 5 mile drives going nowhere . In fact I would add another 250 miles showing the car to others driving it nowhere . So that's about 750 miles out of my 5000 where I leave my house and don't need to .
About 2000 more miles are pleasure driving miles . For instance a drive with my girlfriend to South Beach, Ft Lauderdale , even up to Delray to sit a sidewalk restuarant for seafood or to take a walk . These are the most relaxed miles listening to music and chatting with her at slow speeds enjoying the company and combined with the bliss of this car simultaneously .
Rarely I drive the car with a purpose like the once or twice it has been to a supermarket but I don't like to . I want every mile of this car to have emotional driving significance to me and I try to come as close to that by leaving it home and taking one of my other cars .
Lastly --As some know I recently bought the new M3 for her to drive . We have not yet gone in both cars on a drive together but I like the idea of of this type of drive going nowhere but being together with her in these cars .

I'm an "early riser" - maybe because I now go to bed when I used to shower to go out - and often, especially Sunday mornings, will take a two hour ride to nowhere. Some nice twistys and a few very nice straight stretches where I can hit 140 before I chicken out. The car has a lot more ***** than the driver.

I have had my early morning drives......Twist roads & Straights is a pleasure with this car. Hit 164 on a wide left turn the last time I was out. And all I can say is WOW. It drives like your at 85. Its just insane on how well this car drives & handles. Well worth the $$$
Larry,
I do it ALL the time although most times I try to have at least a destination in mind. Just look at all the road trips I've taken since I've taken ownership of the Turbo. I'm approaching 19,000 miles and each and every one of those miles were well earned. One day you'll have to come join me and Larry on one of our infamous road trips.
