Exhaust Performance

I am considering an exhaust upgrade from stock OME. I am looking at APR, Fabspeed with dual cone intake, GMG and FVD. Sound is not that important,as opposed to drone and resonance. I have heard claims of 60 hp gains with headers and intake from Fabspeed. APR claims 40hp with headers. The others I believe claim 25-30hp. My question is : what is realistic? I have a APR tune yielding 541hp and 638lb torque. I would like to achieve 600-650hp when finished. Any thoughts?

If you want 600+ your going to have to swap out exhaust, headers, intercoolers and get it tuned for that accordingly. I would not do an intake or at the most drop in a BMC panel.

I would say that realistic gains would be 25-30hp. AWE-Tuning rates their system gains at 24hp and 30tq, and it is dyno proven. This is only the cat back exhaust system with 200 cell metal core catalysts. Their headers, for example, give you gains of 12hp, dyno proven as well. Have you considered this system?

As far as the Fabspeed system that includes mufflers and headers, here is their chart:

Please check out the systems, look at my contact information and call me if you have any other questions. I would like to talk to you about resonance and sound in further detail.
We also carry Tuby Style and Milltek exhaust systems.

Hope to hear from you soon!

I forgot to mention that, regardless of which exhaust system you prefer, an ECU flash is necessary to get to 600hp.

If you are interested in the FVD exhaust we are currently selling them at a 15 % discount....
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ory-offer.html

As far as the drone and resonance are concerned our 200 cell and 100 cell versions don't have any. Here is a post by one of our customers with a 200 cell version who has had it on for 1,500 miles in this post....
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ne-louder.html

Our system is 2 3/4" throughout and we see gains of 25 to 30 hp. Find out what the other's are running diameter wise as a fairly safe bet on a turbo is larger diameter = more power.

Just to add a little tidbit...

We all know that what the effect of backpressure is on turbocharged engines. The data collected to reflect this is very useful. Utilized boost is essentially the difference between what is demanded and the backpressure. Most of the sponsors and manufacturers make very good exhausts, but there is a lot to consider...sound, resonance, cat cell count, backpressure, drone...Europipe (which, BTW, I do not have) has one of the best flowing sytems available, with excellent craftsmanship.

I know FVD, GMG, AWE, etc also have very good exhausts...I haven't seen the numbers.

I doubt that you are going to get 60 hp from an exhaust, intake, and headers. You can not simply add HP from each modification and claim total HP output.

A very good thing to point out:P People often make that assumption and it doesn't work like that. +1

Hey Clay, You can't go wrong with the APR 997TT Exhaust, I have installed a couple of these and they have almost ZERO drone. All systems have some drone but on a scale of 1 -10 10 being lots of drone, I would give it a 1.

However you live just over the border in Sourth Carolina with no emissions testing in your state. I have a customer near Lake Wylie with a Tubi Race which means just muffler no cat's which translates to more HP than APR's system which has 200 cel sport cats in it. It's louder than the APR System but it doesn't drone much for a system with out any cats.

Both clients with the Tubi Race and the APR System both have APR Software in their 997TT.

Why don't you give me a call or shoot me an email to set a day to come on up here and listen to it and I can call my client here in Charlotte who has the APR system to compare the two if you like. This would be my suggestion, if you can tolerate the race from Tubi, I would go with that, if not then I would suggest the APR.

As Josh alluded to earlier... we have been doing custom tunes lately with the europipe/775b 4.5" ICs and it has been making some great numbers.

I would also encourage you to consider Tubi and Cargraphic. Please shoot me over a pm and I will be more then happy to explain the benefits of both systems.

do you get more power if you run a catless exhaust system? or more power with a 100cell or 200cell cat system?

This depends on the system and the design of the system.
