HRE's P40 20" Rubbing wheel housing plastic - Help

Hello friends,

Was installing HRE's P40's today on my 997 TT, i have the PSS10's and the car was aligned to GT2 specs. I think it's been lowered -20 mm. The problem is that the wheel fit all around however when you turn the steering about 40% either left or right it hits the wheel housing (the black plastic above the wheel and to the sides).

I was told that the alignment if returned to OEM 997 TT spec it wouldn't rub. can anyone confirm. anyone here with those rims in 20" size on a 997 TT with advice. thanks!

potentially the wrong offset? Never hear of 20' P40s rubbing no matter at what height.

I don't think the alignment is the problems. It's either wider wheel or wrong offset I could be wrong tho

Its not the wrong offset. The wheels are 997TT P40 20x9 and 20x12. The tires are 245/30/20 and 325/25/20 Michelin PS2. We sold them both the coilovers and wheels. As TWTURBO said, he has the same setup. In fact bought from us too. The shop you are using needs to figure out the alignment and ride height setup. Great customer, ****ty install shop.

If anyone has any suggestions, please advise...

I don't have 20s, but my camber is now at -2.0 in the front lowered -20mm, no rubbing at all. Your shop needs to figure it out.

We have done some discussion and here is what I think happened....

The customer said the wheel was pushed forward and at barely turning the wheel was rubbing the fender liner. His picture he sent to me showed this. After discussing the setup, since the front strut top is angled, it is possible that the strut top has been rotated causing different castor and then them trying to align the car around that.

See the top of this Bilstein shock here -

Here is how the shock should look -

If the angle of the Bilstein piece under the rubber strut top is reverse, it would put to much castor on the wheel pushing it forward into the fender liner. I think we found the install problem. Lets see if they can correct it.

I know at least 100 People running this set up, PSS10's and HRE P40 20's it is like the most popular set up on this forum. the bilsteins needs to be lowered at least 15-20mm to work properly and your alignment has to be done right. front wheel rubbing would not be caused by camber adjustment but your caster and toe settings will be way off. if you go to a decent shop you will get proper results or even better have the car corner balanced.
I am on my third coilover kit and have had 20's since the second week i bought my car, i drive it probably a lot harsher than you will ever drive your car and no rubbing. hope this helps.
