Alignment?
Alignment?
Got a nasty suurprise when I woke up and went to take the TT for a ride recently. TPMS alerted me to a flat tire - driver rear. I checked the pressure, it was 10 PSI. Jacked up the car to look at that tire. I heard air coming out the back side of the tire. I felt around it looking for a nail, screw, pliers, or other road trash and found nothing. But, I felt something really weird - the steel cord on the inside top of the tire was fully exposed.
Limped over to the local tire shop for a new pair of bridgestones. I was shocked to see both of the rear tires replaced had extreme wear on the insides of the tires. Tire pressure was a constant 39 or so until tire lost air. Car is fairly new, only dealer serviced (for now), never been raced or tracked or abused. About 17,000 miles.
I guessing the alignment is way off. Would that be a good guess?

not neccessarily...all Porsches are tough on rear tires and 17k miles sounds pretty good to me...for the street and tire wear you can minimize neg camber which will help reduce wear on inner edge...a possible alignment issue would be if rear toe is off but you would probably have noted some handling issues as well if that were the case...can't hurt to have it checked for spec
Thanks ya all. I picked up the car from Rusnak in 1/09. Have not had alignment checked, but plan to take it to them next week. I don't know if they checked that as part of the CPO checklist..??
how many miles on the car when you picked it up..unless you have driven it a lot since you picked it up they should have noted the uneven wear on the tires during the CPO..if you have worn them out since January I would say there is definitely an alignment issue..most likely rear toe since the neg camber you have couldn't wear them that quickly but toe can eat them fast

should be on the detailed cpo list, I can check mine if you can not find yours. tires are supposed to have a minimum of 4mm of tread to be certified, how many miles did you put on since Jan?
Had 8,000 miles when I picked her up. I put about 9k on her since. Dealer says tires were fine at CPO time. They looked fine to me, but I was not looking at the inside of the tires. I'm taking car to dealer Monday for alignment check.

17K is a lot especially depending on driving style, doesnt have to be a bad alignment. Especially if you haven't been keeping an eye on tire wear and if they both went bad at the same time that means they are wearing evenly in comparison to each other.
