Spolier ALERT: ZR1 vs V10 R8

Just finished watching Top Gear Season 14 episode 2. The ZR1 really put it to the Audi, especially considering it was a wet track. Congrats, Corvette! ...and they say American cars can't handle.

Beauty of the R8 is it's 100+bhp down yet in puts down similar numbers in a composed fashion. The ZR1 is just an animal.

Being beat by over a second is NOT running a "similar" number, it's called, "having your *** handed to you." This is racing not basket weaving!

Having over 100bhp on a RWD car vs an AWD drive car I'd expect their to be a bigger gap I'm sorry. I'm not bashing the ZR1, but lap times and drag was what it was built for, sorry if I'm partial to the Audi that won't break on you every time it's driven hard

The lap times were done on a wet track. The Audi should have had a huge advantage being AWD and supposedly having the superior suspension. When you make power sometimes things break, that's why Hondas live forever.

If the Audi was a 4x4 I'd agree with you, but it is actually rear wheel based sending 80% of torque to the rear wheels and only 20% to front. Also I'm not talking about engine problems only, my friends Z06 rattles, shakes, and has thousands of little problems. The ZR1 is an amazing car for a track beater, but there is a reason the Audi is 50k more in my opinion.

While I agree the ZR1 could have gone faster under better conditions, the track wasn't wet. "pd" = "partly damp". It looked more damp for the Audi's lap. Stig totally bypassed the damp section by the tire barrier in favor of dry track in the ZR1, but took the Audi right through the wettest part, throwing up spray in the process. If the track were wet, the ZR1 probably would've lost by several seconds.

Agreed. In the UK, GM has seen fit to market this unmodified (for RHD market) ZR1 at pretty much the same price as the Audi.
Good to see that Clarkson isn't a badge snob, and he's a huge fan of Volkswagen-Audi-Group products. He did say, however, that on real world roads, the Audi is faster.

Audi is way down on power compared to the ZR1. Not to mention, if that video was of the actual lap, that the R8's tail was all over the place. No R-Tronic and probably not sports suspension. Given the dry and all those things, I think the Audi would have been 1:20.

In the end, who cares though. The big problem is that I see 30 ZR1's a day. Oh wait, those are regular Z06's. Oh wait, those are regular Corvettes. Oh wait...

Keep in mind the ZR1 did a 1:20 in very damp conditions against a awd car. In the dry it would demolish the Audi. Only reason the Audi is as close as it is is because of the damp conditions. Scary isnt it. Also I remember reading that they say that dry and wet times can vary as much as 5 seconds so the 1.20 and 1.21 respectively is not the best either can do. Very good cars. Make mine the Audi though.

I'm just messing with you. I have no idea why the ACR hasn't been tested, but the King of the Ring is the POS Gumpert Apollo. Before you post anything, I have seen one in person and it looks like a nice kit car and ran a very lowly 158 mph through the Tx. Mile this past October. It was a huge disappointment to me and my friends.
