997tt brakes look wavy
my rear brake rotors on my 997.1 turbo are looking a little bit wavy. A friend of mine says this is normal for my car but i am not sure? The car has 11k miles on it. when my brakes are worn will the cpu give me a warning? my brakes are oem steel ones not pccbs.
I have a 07 with 14k miles and have the same look on the rear rotors. My vehicle goes to the dealer for regular scheduled maintenance and they have never mentioned anything out of the ordinary. Last oil change they provided a list of things inspected and the brakes/rotors was on there with no call for action. I don't track my car and tend to take it easy on the brakes as I don't enjoy the excessive brake dust they are notorious for. That being said, I'm sure I'll have to replace the rotors and the pads when the time comes so everything wears as it should.

They don't squeek fortunately. I've always been very happy with the feel for the type of driving I do.
I've come accross some threads on here that discuss brake pad options. I'll probably go with the OEM pads when the time comes but you could look into other vendors for added feel/grip.

Really?? Wow, i've had an '06 997S and now my turbo and compared to the brakes on the E55 I had there is no comparison between the brakes on the porsche's and the Benz.
I don't know if there is a pad-wear indicator system. I would ask the technicians to check it out wherever you have your car serviced. I know my $$$ oil service includes a thorough check. Not happy with the high price but appriciate certified techs working on the vehicle. Last time at the dealer I received a service checklist detailing two pages of items inspected, and the brakes were included.

The wavy surface on the rotors is fairly common, and it doesn't cause any problems.

You can also do a quick visual inspection of the pads, when the pad width is close to or smaller than the width of the backing plate its time to replace them soon.
If you are doing track time you def need to replace at this point as the pads will have a harder time dissipating heat as their width decreases past a certain threshold, so when you get to around 50% its time to consider a replacement or at least grabbing an extra set to the to track with you.
