997.2 I/C installed review

Hey guys,
So after much thought i got the 997.2 intercoolers installed on my 2007 turbo with 29k miles.
Power Mods:
OE tuning ECU tune
FVD catless exhaust
997.2 intercoolers

So after driving the car for about a week with the new intercoolers, i have come to the conclussion that...

-Car definitely pulls harder when driving very spirited, especially when weather is hot.
-Power increase noticed above 4.5k all the way to redline.

Most interesting thing i have noticed is that the car backfires every single time now when i shift when doing a pull/let off gas at high RPM.
Before it would backfire about 30% of the time, now it does it litteraly every time.
Sounds epic. Absolutely epic.

My friends have mentioned the car sounds a bit more savage in the high RPM's as well. (Friends that see/ride in the car multiple times weekly)

For all i know the power/sound could just be placebo, however the backfire thing is definitely not lol.
And i am almost 100% sure that i am right about the high RPM power increase.

I suggest you all do this mod. Definately worth the money!

BTW thanks to Sonnen Porsche for quick delivery and good pricing.

-Sam

Misfires don't sound normal, have you checked the plugs?

Just for clarification...

The 07-09 997 Turbos and 08-09 GT2s share the exact same intercooler.

The 2010 997 Turbo and 2011 Turbo S and the GT2RS share the same newer intercooler.

My 997TT is backfiring a bit too when shift at hard pullings, but it is not since I bolt the 997.2ics, it is since I decat it!

Nevertheless, I agree, those Ics are very good parts. (just log with Durametric it is night and day with the 997.1s...)

Nope was direct bolt in.
They are slightly larger than 997.1 intercoolers, so my installer had to cut into some lining to make it fit correctly. He said it wasnt too difficult.

Overall i have no regrets what so ever with this mod.

To answer otheres questions regarding the backfires, I do not think these backfires are misfires.
Simply excess gas fumes beyond released after letting of the throttle + very hot exhaust system + no cats to hold back fumes = flames lol

As for the backfires getting more common/larger with the intercoolers, i really have no idea as to why this is

Possibly the use of more efficient IAT's may now require a slight remap of the ECU. If the fuel delivery is too rich and isn't being totally burnt in the combustion process, and with no cats to burn the residual fuel off upon entry, the unburnt fuel will ignite/combust in the exhaust system. This isn't a good scenario for either the muffler or the valves. I would get it looked at.

I agree on getting a re-tune. I am getting upgraded turbos within the month so i will wait for that before the re-tune
