I need help choosing GT3RS/997.2 Turbo
I need help choosing GT3RS/997.2 Turbo
I need help guys, I have a 2006 Carrera non S , with coilovers, sway bars and when I track it I put the Pagid pads yellow r29 and r compound tires. I feel it’s time to upgrade my ride but I am torn between getting a 997.2 turbo or a 2010 gt3RS. I love driving fast both on and off the track so the turbo is very appealing to me plus there are tons of mods to make it go faster. But on the track I see how the best and fastest cars there are usually GT3’s plus having an RS makes the car standout more and rarer. I am posting this on both forums just to see what kind of feedback I will get. Anyone else who had the same dilemma and choose one over the other? I would love to hear why. Thanks
Daily driver= Turbo
If you like torque- Turbo
If you want something special- GT car
If you track -GT Car
Do a quick seach on the topic it's been discussed on both forums.
From my perspective I have a tuned 997 TT, bilsteins sways etc, its fun but I honestly wish it was more special.

Yo V you now that's on my list,LOL. But I am leaning towards the RS first. I know you love that turbo. What do you think?
For the street----Turbo, no question
For the track---Gt3 RS, love it especially in grey with red decals!!!!

I love the Turbo... potential for some serious power, with sways, coilovers and some GT3 suspension bits the car will almost be as nimble as an RS. Plus is makes an amazing daily.
The GT3 RS has always been a favorite. My buddy's mom owns one and it's awesome.. high revving N/A babyyyyy!!
Tough choice, choose wisely

This is always an interesting comparison. I once participated in a Car and Driver's test drive; it was me and a professional test driver, switching cars back and forth between my Bilstein Turbo and the test car, a 2010 GT3. He led I chased, or rather, tried to chase LOL (it was "nasty" how much better he was than amateurish me). http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life driving. I also found out that at the edge, is where you notice the huge differences between the 2 cars.
For handling and the track: GT3 RS hands down. It is among best handling cars in the world, and best handling 911 ever (the mid-engine CGT, Boxster and Cayman are superior to 911 IMHO), tactile, instantaneous. Beautiful to drive in the curves. The soft and ponderous suspension of the stock Turbo doesn't stand a chance against GT3 (this is why people modify the Turbo's suspension so often). Don't even think about using GT3 as a daily driver though; it will wear you down in daily commutes. This is not a happy car unless you keep it above 5000 rpm.
To make Turbo come close to GT3, you need at the minimum after-market coilover with stiffer springs like Bilstein AND as importantly R compound tires, then IMHO it will become a driver's race. R comp tire is a huge advantage of GT3 that is frequently ignored in these comparisons; it is truly a great equalizer and once a Turbo has these tires - it is a much fairer fight.
For straight-line acceleration and a sense of endless power: Once in your life, as a motorsports fan it's a must to own a Turbo ;-). Turbo will blow the GT3 out of the water when it comes to straight-line acceleration and it is not even remotely close. I remember feeling shocked at how little power the GT3 has below 5000. I was not happy with the lack of low end torque of the GT3 and for this reason, I wouldn't want it to be the only car in my garage. The GT3 really needs a 4.5 liter V8, or better yet, my favorite the amazing Audi/Lamborghini V10.
This is a question that has been asked many times and each time it's still fun to answer, and the answer is that there is no easy answer. My dream garage used to be Turbo and GT3, and now that I've modified my Turbo's suspension, it's Turbo and Boxster (the new Boxster is absolutely gorgeous and the mid-engine handling IMHO leaves our 911 far behind; I encourage everyone to test drive this car - a real test drive at good speed, not wimpy ones at the dealer). You could also add GT2 to the mix, but it's more expensive and GT3 RS is to me the more fun track car, even against GT2.

This review has the best analysis of the vast straight-line power difference between the 2 engines :
"The difference between cars that run 8.4 and 9.6 seconds 0-100 mph is vast. The Turbo just disappears. By 150 mph, the gap is 4.2 seconds, that's good night Vienna in sprint terms."

This is the age old question isn't it
I tuned my turbo and love it but for the track I went with two GT3 Cup cars (2005 and 2012).
Doesn't get better than that
Like others have said GT3 for the track may be better but it's misery for daily driving
