997.2 tts oem air filter restrictive?

I have been reading that you should replace the factory air filter element because oem is restrictive . With all of the hundreds of millions in r&d why does Porsche not get it right?? Is this true.....and does anyone have any recommendations ?? 2012 997.2 tts

Unfortunately it's true. The original filters are designed to be disposable. If they put in a cleanable filter, then they'd have to worry about making sure people actually clean them. They'd also lose a ton on service income...lol.

Go with a BMC drop-in filter. Inexpensive, re-usable, and much less restrictive then the factory paper filter. We use these in all our power kits, included our 9 second TTS.

This is a bit of a misnomer. If proper service intervals are followed, there is nothing wrong with the oem filters. The aftermarket freeflow filters don't filter as well and if you over oil them, which most people do, you run the risk of fouling up your MAF sensor.

Stick with Oem and change out every 15-20k. It's cheap and easy to do yourself anyway

No worries and good luck with the mods. I also forgot to say that unless you are going to increase the amount of intake you need to ensure you match the output. I've seen people loose power by loosing the proper back pressure as well as increasing intake and loosing power due to too much back pressure.

I would go to a tune shop to get them to match the tune with your exhaust mods to get the best ratios.

I think I will just install the europipe and leave it at that ...Europipe states 25-30hp gain and that would put me at 560hp and 0-60 around 2.9sec....

Where did you read that - remember if it's on the internet, it has to be true.

Frizz is infamous around these parts
For sure oem paper filters are restrictive. And maybe these dumb Germans just want to make sure, if you wish a less restrictive filter you run it at your own risk. E.g. all the MAF trouble is now your problem.
