Water pump bearing... pump replacement

Quick price check for you guys.

My water pump bearing just failed (after 90,000 km). Got a quote on replacement, all in (including taxes) at $1700 Canadian.

My service shop is a bit more expensive than most - but their service is TOP NOTCH. That said... is that reasonable or on the "very" high side?

wow, sounds expensive. How much is the part alone? I'm guessing they will change the belt and the other pulleys at the same time? Is there other stuff that should be done at the same time?

I just had my serpentine belt changed and my indy guy said that the other pulleys seemed okay - no noise/friction.

They claim around 6 hours work @ 125/hr... so would imagine the rest would be parts(?) But the math doesn't seem to make sense. Hmm
Part should be in the 400 range

Turbo Singh is infamous around these parts
Hey, you could try Juan's Automotive in Richmond and get a quote. A PCar specialist with great customer service and workmanship without the Vancouver city luxury tax. No affiliation.

Pump is about $575, book on labor is about 6 h, so $1700 Canadian is steep when a good tech can probably do it in 4 h or less.

Yeah, I like that math. $700 for the labor and $1000 for the part!

What's less than "top notch" service worth to you?

Thanks ES - those prices are REALLY good, it's half price!!!

Unfortunately, the item's being bought though @ $500 with cap, I had to order fast and even pay over night shipping (+$75) to get the pump in as I need the car
So I'm looking at a $600 part - sucks!
