Turbo over heating
Turbo over heating
After 2 sessions at Glen, bank 1 turbo is overheating after 6-7 laps. I reset and let cool down and works fine. Any ideas what to look for? It is 82 degrees and sunny.
Oil temp was 210ish and water was 175ish. Happened again on last session, happened when I was pushing the throttle hard hitting close to 150mph each time.

Did you only get the code or did the ECU pull boost, timing, etc. and go into limp mode? Is it possible there is another problem like a bad cat, failed gasket or faulty sensor that is causing or reporting excess heat elsewhere in the intake/exhaust system (think exhaust gas temps) and triggering the code? My limited understanding is that an EGT issue will throw a "soft fault", ie resets when ignition is recycled or even when temps dip back below threshold, but will recur whenever temp parameters are once again exceeded. Obviously, track use exacerbates this problem. I had a similar problem last summer. Car ran great for a few laps, then would go into limp mode for half a lap, then would run great for a half lap, back into limp mode, etc. etc. Gauge temps were normal like yours and nothing abnormal appeared while datalogging. Car ran fine while on the street. Turned out to be a fouled cat combined with track conditions but it had everyone guessing for awhile. Good luck!

I only got the code fault, would that data still be in car if I didn't data log it?. Checked for boost leaks, nothing seemed obvious. Had same problem all sessions today as well. Ran fine for 20 minutes or so and then lost boost, car drove ok, just didn't had top end power.
Sucked when I worked hard to pass some fast guys only to have to wave them by after I lost the turbos.
Here is 1 lap with junked R888s, their last session. Would have been to fun to play all 30 minutes.

Taking to dealer Wednesday, not sure what they will figure out since I won't be able to reproduce unless at the track. Can you track guys make me feel comfortable that these cars can handle aggressive all out driving for 30+ minutes? I have no engine mods except a tune and exhaust.
Will have them check for boost leaks.
