Need Help CPO question

Im looking at buying a car in VA a 997.2 TTS and I just found out that it has a Europipe exhaust and flash(what flash I don't know). Anyway it is certified until 4-17 which I loved but I am concerned that my dealer in San Antonio will not honor the warranty.

The P car dealer in Virgina Beach says that the warranty is still good and that the parts were on the car when it was certified and the flash was not detected.

Does PNA "HAVE" to honor the warranty even tho the ecu has a flash and exhaust is aftermarket?

Anyone know anything about this car?

Tom

Have you talked to the SA dealer about this and see what his thoughts are about warranty? Is it a Porsche CPO or another third party warranty? The exhaust wouldn't concern me too much but a tuned ECU would. Don't know if there is a way to prove the flash existed at time of CPO which might pose a future problem too. Good luck - sounds like a good car.

I did. The sales manager said that the cpo will not cover the after market part and if its the ecu which controls everything right? Then I would have an issue or would have to re-flash it back to stock.

The Service manager completely said they would not touch it. I wasn't really looking for a modded car and imo having owned a .2ttS already, it didn't need any more. But, the exhaust sounds pretty nice and I hear that once flashed you go up to some 650 hp.

Tough call….

Exhaust and flash will not get you to 650 hp. Porsche will not cover the warranty if in anyway at all they could be affected by the modifications. Under Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act other parts will be covered (engine will be excluded because they can make a clear case with the flash and the exhaust), but radiator will be covered, the interior and etc.

I find it very hard to believe that they CPO'd the car with those modifications and if they did, make sure the CPO papers are in order. Else, do yourself a favor and argue for a discount and use the money to buy an aftermarket warranty like Fidelity and etc.

Else, walk away from the car IMHO

Just curious how you 'found out' about the flash. PPI? Like others, I'm very surprised Porsche would CPO a flashed ECU. They CPO aftermarket exhausts all the time...even make sure u know it's there.

Tough call. Too many questions left open as a way out of the CPO.

Lastly...is it a bargain price? That would probably indicate something too.

Best of luck.

Boeing Driver is infamous around these parts
FYI I bought my turbo from a member on this forum. It WAS certified with an aftermarket exhaust and a GIAC tune. After I bought the car I needed warranty work done and the dealer; Henessey Porsche, the same dealer that certified it and sold it would not honor the warranty work because it had an aftermarket exhaust and a GIAC flash. Dirtbags!!

The sales man told me after having gone back and forth with offers and counter offers for days. I finally spoke with him over the phone today and he told me what it had.

I have emails from him today convinced that all will be honored via the warranty with out any issues.

No bargain price here at all. Its the most expensive of the 3 cars I am looking at and it has half the miles but also happens to have the ext color of choice for me "meteor grey" and aero kit and sport adaptive seats.

It would be perfect if it had 5 lug wheels and none of the after market stuff on it. I have to admit the sales guy sent me a clip of the exhaust at start up and cold and it sounded great. Its a europipe btw.

Sounds great! Good luck. Europipe is the best!

I got lucky and my 2007 came with a Tubi. Although I'm a europipe guy, Tubi sounds nice!

But the selling dealer is in Virginia and you're in Texas...and you already asked if the Texas dealer would honor the warranty and I thought they said "no" - very easy for the VA dealer to make promises to sell the car. I'd still be leery of the warranty, but it might be a risk you're willing to take. As I said before, it's the flash that would worry me.

Found out that it is an APR flash. Called around a few Pcar service centers and gave the vin to the car. They all said it was good to go with no "red tags" about a flashed ecu. I was told that if this is the case. I can always remove the flash or take it back to a stock program for warranty issues.

Still thinking about it. Found another nice car but its silver and that was not my desired color. It has everything else and 5 lug wheels so really thinking about it.

For what it's worth, I just bought a CPO turbo and they said they would install the europipe and tune for me and it wouldn't effect the warranty. I think it has more to do with your relationship with the dealer.

Interesting. I would think a Porsche NA CPO is nationwide and not dealer specific. Maybe your dealer will 'look the other way' on the flash and just tell Porsche NA its stock if any major work is required based on the relationship.

My guess is generally these cars are fairly bullet proof. But there is a shot that a dealer will say no repair a Pcar with a modified ECU. Its certainly within their rights under the CPO warranty.
