Nothing against Shepard but if Dodson is releasing a new clutch kit for PDK I will go with Sean Ive instead, By far better costumer service and job.

In the GTR world Sean have better reputation

John Shepherd basically taught Sean Ivey how to build transmissions. I've raced against, and known Shep for 15 years. Not a better guy in the business in my opinion. Not to knock Ivey, I know he's good as well but I'd spend my money with Shepherd.

Do you known him from a costumer perspective?... 3 friend of mine with A10 and A12 GTR's have a terrible experience a few years back with Shep. They switch to Sean and never look back. Because of that I build my stage 3 for my A10 with Sean and it was all A+ with them. Again I have nothing against Shep, never deal with them but it was enough to go with Sean

Yes I have run a couple of builds from him without any issues whatsoever. I just saw him a couple weeks ago at Texas Invitational, most/all of the GTRs there were running his transmissions, including Tony Palo and Alpha Omega. I guess I didn't even realize there was anyone else in the GTR market .

I have no issues with Sean Ivey. He just ignores me at the track. Like I did something bad to him. I never had a problem with him. Even gave him parts for free when he needed them.

I guess he forgot I use to whoop his *** in 2000 and he ran a bigger turbo and NOS. I hope he reads this, because I like trash talk.

Now, if he did not ignore me, and maybe even said a hi, because he is local, I would work with him. Hey Sean!

Now Shep, I have known as long as I have know Ivey. But shep seems to go out of his way for me.

But I do know about the issues with Shep and GTR's and how Ivey stepped in for Buschur and helped out Dave. I just don't like drama, but it happens, including in the GTR world.

I like Dave and Shep, so I am staying neutral on this.

That's funny Gary. Ivey is going to put me in the Jamaican choke hold of doom when he reads this .

They are both very respected in the GTR world. Shep is the standard for most big builds, but a lot of owners are going with his stuff because they are told his stuff is the best, not because the owners have any actual preference. Ivey's transmissions are known to do more with less. His stuff holds a lot of power and needs less, he just seems to know EXACTLY what to put in there to make it hold, and he doesn't attach extra things in there.

Customer service: eh....that's a tossup. Shep is known to be very helpful but there are stories of his things breaking and there being issues. Ivey is known to be a bit......prickly, at times. So it just depends

I would have no worries using a Shep piece however, especially a new piece. He likes to have good PR so if something were to break I'm sure he would fix it no issues.

I'll subscribe to this to understand the point of it. Adam is hammering the crap out of his pdk with over 700hp and isn't getting any clutch slip and hasn't blown up his tranny yet. Why does anyone need a clutch upgrade? More like a tranny rebuild after it blows up! I'd be much more interested in a software upgrade to match the 991 pdk response.

I haven't torn one down personally and inspected it, but one could surmise the gearset is pretty strong. "Over 700hp" is pretty vague though, what matters is how much torque the engine is making. 525ft lbs at 7000rpm will make 700hp and won't be a problem more than likely. But 700ft lbs at 4500rpm might be more of a problem for the clutches.

By the time you get to 900ft lbs or more, I doubt the stock clutches can handle it.
