997TT as your only car ?
997TT as your only car ?
anyone is this lifestyle ? having their 997 tt as not only their daily driver but their only car ?
I may be going that route and want to hear your stories. The issue for me is I have my son part time and some times I have to take him, and his hockey bag and stick to his games. I don't know if I can do all that with my wife in the front seat ? So that means, a great big lifestyle change for the three of us (as I would take him solo)
or give up owning a 911 and get a 4 door bimmer or an RS5 ?

We have another car (BMW X5) but I can relate because our family uses the 911 a lot even on road trips. I can tell you that the 911 will barely fulfill your cargo requirements. The trunk upfront is good for one decent size gym bag and some smaller items. The hockey stick would be a big hurdle. How old is your son? I have two small kids 5 and 4 and they are ok at the back (with boosters). We pack light on road trips. A teenager on the other hand may find the space behind cramp. You can manage transporting all three of you in the 911 but it might get tiring if you constantly need to play tetris with your cargo.
Yeah it's not going to work, a 14 year old almost has the same leg room requirements of an adult plus his hockey stick. Which will most likely be placed inside the cabin at the back maybe resting between the front seats.

I'm the type of person that wants to have his cake and eat it too. I think the OP needs to find the lowest priced 997tt and just get a used 325i. The 997tt is a great DD but not a good cargo transport.
OP - if you can have only one car but need to transport your son and wife that alone is a big hassle. Now adding the hockey gears, it will be troublesome for all occupants. I think you just answer your question M3, M5 or RS5. I would definitely pass on the 996TT
next time you go look at a 996/997 bring your son's equipment (heck bring your son) and test fit them in the car like how you would do it. While I was looking for my 997 I asked the salesperson if I could put my kid's boosters in the back, have the kids sit etc... it may look funny in the dealership but you gotta do this, they'll be happy to let you do it anyway. You might be surprised that the hockey stick may fit
