Boost leak question

Well, I was getting ready to post a thread about how the car is almost tweaked with the new injectors etc... but I've encountered a little setback:

I was changing from 2nd to 3rd gear and the car felt sluggish for a sec so I gave it a little more gas (around 3k rpm or so) and heard a "pfffffsssst" pop sound like opening a fizzy can of pop. I figured it was the y-pipe connector which has popped off before. But the visible connections in the engine bay look okay.

I can jack up the car to see the turbo hose connections but I'm wondering if the bumper needs to come off to get access to the intercooler hoses? I hope not, lol. Is there a diy thread for taking off the bumper if necessary?

No CEL or anything and behaves like a typical boost hose issue. Hope that is all it is.

It might be the other ends of the boost pipe that goes in to the IC. You may be able to push really hard from the engine bay and get the top ones to snap in....takes a ton of pressure and they really make a snap noise.

If you end up needing to get in there, look up one of my Inter-cooler, Spark Plugs, or Inlet Duct DIY articles on this site, and I cover how to remove the bumper cover as well.

Good luck!

Only takes 10 minutes to pull the bumper off. Probably a good idea to inspect everything.

What an excellent DIY guide - rep points to you once again.

The good news is I didn't have to take off the bumper - VR, if you can get the bumper off in 10 minutes my hat is off to you, it would take that long for me to get 1 tire off, lol.

I jacked up the car to have a look and it was the passenger side hose that had popped off the turbo compressor housing. Put it back on, checked all the other accessible connections and did a few runs on the highway - whoo hoo, my boost is back!

Rock - you rock!

Glad you fixed it!

Just an FYI, you don't have to take the tires off to remove the bumper.

This is true only if you have a non-lowered car. With lowered cars you don't have enough room to get inside the wheel well and get the bumper retaining screws out. What I did for mine is I merely jacked up the car to raise it up (without removing the tires)

Agree with both. There are many ways to do it, and it is not absolutely necessary to remove the wheels. I sometimes just put it on the lift and when the wheels hang, there is enough room. I just find it easier to remove and put back together with the wheels out of the way...Not required...just a preference.

use good clamps and make sure to put them on straight all around the hose and hose pop offs will be a thing of the past....
