Screw in Tire!! Ughh!!!

I have some tread left on my rear MPSS but I see a large screw in one of my tires. I don't want to mess with trying to plug it and it seems as if MPSS are on backorder until October.

I talked to the dealer and they can get me MPSport PS2s. Anyone using these tires? Any other choices you suggest for street use and 2-4 HPDE's / yr.

Thanks!

have the tire guys looked at it? They'll tell you if its patchable-I've had some pretty large things in a tire and it was fixed and lasted for many miles. I hope that October date is true for my 325 rears!!

Plug it. It takes 5 mins.

It's ok to drive on plug tires unless you are tracking the car in a timed or competitive event.

Thanks for the input. I wasn't aware the plugging is a viable alternative.

I've already had the dealer order the new tires, so I may have them plug my current rear tire and just save the rears for when the new one's wear out.

However, I do track my car a few times a year and only plan to put about 8-10K miles/year on the car. I don't know what happens when things go bad with a plugged tire, but I'd hate to find out at 140 MPH.

I have plugged many tires without any issues.

I have gone as far as tracking the cars and autoxing them. I have gone to the chords and the plug has survived and exceeded the life of the rubber...

Nothing wrong w/the plug if you do it correctly.

Yeah.....I think I'm going to go the plug route as well. I've had a slow leak over the last month and discovered a nail embeded in the tread (nowhere near the sidewall). I don't track/autocross so I'll give it a shot.

For those have plugged it is hard to do on low profile tires? I heard it get sort of difficult to get that piece of plug into the hole (ok....keep your mind out of the gutter).

I would get the tire repaired as well. I suggest you go to a Discount Tire if you have one nearby. They are great...and they actually repair flats free (whether or not you bought them there)...And they do it correctly.

I was quite impressed with them...Brought my daughter's car in as the tire leaked down...They dismounted it and cleaned/plugged/patched it from the inside...re-installed and balanced and charged $0.00! So of course I bought my next tires from them

Good luck...

Ran into a bad spell one year, 10 flats between our family Van and my M3. Was very very odd. I think I made an enemy.

I digress. As long as the nail/screw is an inch in from the side wall a patch will hold up just fine.

Nope...not any more difficult than a normal tire. The ones that can be a little PITA are the run-flats. You just need to "work the hole" a bit more, but eventually, it will fit...LOL. But seriously...

Once again, I have to second DC's (therock88) comments. Discount Tire (no affiliation) provides outstanding, professional customer service. If you have one in your area you cannot go wrong

Thanks for advice!

Went to Discount Tire (where I get tires for my Yukon) and they plugged the tire and didn't charge me. He did say that the plug is close to sidewall and I should watch the pressure to make sure it doesn't drop.

Hopefully I can get enough miles on these now until the MPSS are available again.
