997.1 Lightweight Flywheel

About to do the clutch, I drive the car mostly for fun (never daily) and occasionally on the track.

Does anyone use or have a flywheel preference?

I run this with a RSR 4.0 clutch and Guard LSD .... track DE days and weekend car...

Love the combo .... clutch is amazing, revs quickly and the sound of the LWFW is so cool

If you don't mind a little chatter it's cool. With a nicely breathing set up and tune the car will rev nicely. But you do get some noise at idle and it's a little trickier in tight situations but that doesn't seen like it will be an issue for you. There are a few ways to get it done. Feel free to hit me up if I can help you in anyway or get you special pricing.

Its a great mod to do, easier to rev match and a much "revvier" engine. Maybe try a car with one first to see if it's for you.

The 4.0/2RS flywheel is a good 4lbs lighter than the 964 flywheel, other than chatter the only issue is the ocational stall on deceleration, the car adapts to it but you might need to adapt your driving too (it does not like slow downshifts).

If you do go with one remember to get a sprung clutch disk.

Good luck

Sam set me up with the 4.0 LWFW combo.
i love it and would never go back. The throttle is much more responsive now and my shifting is actually smoother now.
My particular car has no chatter unless I flog it and heat it up a bit. Then you'll hear the slightest chatter at idle. YMMV.

All in all, I think it's a great upgrade.

964RS flywheel weighs 11.0 lbs, 996Cup/2RS flywheel weighs 8.2lbs. That's a difference of 2.8lbs. The 6Cup flywheel has slightly less surface area as the friction surface is narrower due to the machining.. You need a tune that accounts for the LWFW and you won't have any issues with drivability.

Not sure which setup I've got but the chatter is annoying. Definitely not "slight" by any means.

I also have never had the car stall, but you need to pay a little bit more attention when starting from a stop, which is kinda annoying when you are just tooling around, but when you are focused on your driving is fine.

Have a LWFW in mine.

Not a fan so far. Issues with stalling and the chatter is BEYOND annoying.

Will be coming out next year.
