Sachs 2.5 clutch still the popular set up?
Sachs 2.5 clutch still the popular set up?
From what I have researched, it seems like the Sachs "2.5" clutch kit that uses the 997 GT3RS 4.0 disk along side with the sachs 487 pressure plate is the popular set up to go with?
I am looking at putting down around 650-700 whp, which seems like its right around the threshold of that clutch. Anyone with experiences on this set up with those power levels or greater that you can provide any input or further suggestions?
thanks!

Hi Don. It's a great set up and can be configured several ways with different flywheels and disks. Feel free to reach out and I can help you with pricing and support to get you into the right set up. In stock and ready to ship. Do you have your power kit sorted already?
I'm wondering why BL didn't install a similar combo in my car. Similar power levels - 650-700wtq. They initially installed a GT2 clutch which slipped after I got the car back. GT2 clutch is good for 650tq at the motor right? I questioned the use of this clutch before the work was done and I was assured it would work fine. They ended up replacing it with a Sachs twin-disk variant. It doesn't slip but pretty heavy and a little grabby. How would that compare to the clutch mentioned above?
I received my clutch from Sam and it worked great until I put Alpha 30's on the car around 23-24psi. Such a great clutch, so close to stock it is insane.
Then I just took that clutch and changed it to the Proto Twin setup, which has the exact same feel. I couldn't be any happier!
BTW, can't say enough about Sam, he is the man.

I did the 2.5 with the BBI slave, and I gotta tell you it's one of the heaviest clutches I've ever had in a car - I wish I had kept the OEM slave configuration - but the engagement is great and consistent.
I can understand why people go with the GT2 type slave setup, and get rid of all of that extra crap that can go bad... From the slave / master, to the accumulator.. But I have to say I am willing to pay the extra to keep the stock assist... Sure you don't get the "feel", but for stop and go traffic, and ease of driving I love it.

I was all against heavier gt2 style assist until I actually did it. Took me 1 day to get used to it. Can sit in traffic all day and not really care, left leg got used to it and it feels great.
Is this with the assist spring switched for a GT3 one, or still the stock turbo spring? Everyone seems to say that with the GT3 spring it's certainly stiffer but not unbearable, whereas if you keep the Turbo spring, it.. basically is unbearable.

I don't think the BBi kit comes with a new assist spring. You should buy a GT3 one. It makes a noticeable difference over the stock turbo spring and massive difference over no spring. I bought mine from Paramount for $75 shipped. Here is the part number with a clickable link to their page 997-423-081-06
The 997 GT2, GT3, GT3RS clutch assist spring is the same - I think Porsche kept it the same for their 911s that didn't use the accumulator-style setup the TT has.
Also, I have a Sachs "2.5" setup along with the EVOMS GT2 slave conversion, so mine might be a touch more stiff than a conversion with a stock clutch setup.
