Nissan aspires to conquer the 911!?!

Caught on video, the Nissan GT-R was seen in SoCal. Look at what's following behind!!!

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do....photopanel..1.

After watching the video, I wonder what the performance numbers will be? A heavier car with less horsepower...but equal performance!?!

Rumor has it they aim to topple the 911's Nurburgring time with a goal of 7:30ish. Pretty bold, considering the Carrera GT has runs from 7:28 on up to 7:39.

No estimations on HP yet. Engine size is also unknown, guesses from 3.2 to 3.8 liters with 2 turbos have been suggested.

There is a long line of manufacturers that they can join. I do look forward to seeing what they bring to the table but I really dont think it is going to be a 911 killer unless maybe they mean a stock c2.

It looks a lot better in the video than it does in the static pics I've seen. I'm still not convinced until I see it in person.

The GTR has before and will again beat the current turbo around the 'ring. In previous guises its held records around it for production cars. Since the announcement of the new GTR thats been its goal and a 997TT is always shadowing its moves in final testing & development.

No small feat, sure. But I would only look at this and be flattered if your a 997TT owner because no matter what its still a Nissan albeit a mighty impressive beast and its gunning for the top dog.

I think they could've if Japan's rules allowed it.
Japan limits all its cars to 275hp stock.

Im sure it will be moddable once the likes of Vishnu etc. get a hold of it. Im sure 100hp increases are a flash away and bigger gains not that far off nor too expensive either.

No such limit on the Japanese cars nowadays. it was not always followed much either outside of advertised HP figures.

this was actually a "gentleman's agreement" that was made between the top car manufacturers in japan. the agreement was that the cars would not have more than 276 hp. For some time this agreement became augmented to only maintain that the cars would be advertised as having 276 hp despite having more.

Quoting Car and Driver from here:
http://www.caranddriver.com/carnews/...6-hp-pact.html
Japanese engine designers, however, will readily concede that the country's manufacturers have been building cars with more than 276 horsepower. It's just that none of the automakers wanted to officially break the agreement. It's no secret that Mitsubishi Lancer Evos, Subaru Impreza WRXs, and Nissan 300ZX twin-turbos have been in violation of the agreement for years, but at least in Japan, they all claimed to have 276 horsepower. The false advertising was ignored for the sake of harmony. Not anymore.

Then how does Nissan's 350Z (Fairlady Z) manage 313PS (308HP)?

Not with the hp and weight they are claiming, not a chance it will beat the 997 turbo in any performance category. HP/Weight/Traction always rule, ALWAYS.

It's disappinting Nissan can't make the car look good. It's just as ugly as the previous GTR.
