V1 seems to be impaired by the windshield on my CL55

Hey guys,

Have any of you encountered an issue with the front windshield reducing the sensitivity of your V1? I put a V1 in my CL55 in the same location as every other car (next to the rear view mirror, just below the tinted glass) and it seems like the V1 can not pick up a signal out the front of the car. Once I pass the cop it picks up the signal from behind. Any ideas here? Do I need to change to a radar detection system that is mounted outside the car? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Make sure the detector is in the black dotted area and not outside of it.

to get best performance you want to give v1 unobstructed view front and back. i put my right in the middle of the windshield. unless it is illegal to have a detector in your state, this would be my recommendation.

I have an S600, and the radar nor tolltag detect in any part of the windshield because the windshield has some material in it that is not translucent. The dotted part of the windshield on both sides of the rear view mirror is the only part of the windshield that is readable.

There are 2 cutouts in the solar film. On either side of the windshield (not on the dotted part but the clear part) and the middle bottom area of the windshield. If you look at your windshield under the right light, you will see them. Your manual also tells you where the cutouts are located. My GL450 and my wife's S500 both have them. I have used my V1 without issues.

It's a hit or miss event sometimes with toll scanners. Half the time that I go into DFA airport, it works perfectly - the other times, I have to open the window and wave the toll tag around for the scanner to see it.

The problems usually occur when I'm late for a flight - how does the machine know that?
