Cool Newbie questions

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum but just recently purchased a 2006 V8 Vantage. Absolutely love it!!!

I want to be able to play my iPhone music through the Premium stereo (made by Alpine) but just not sure how to open the dash without breaking something. Would love to just know if there is a USB cable back there somewhere that I can hook up to.

Closest AM dealer is hours away so would like to know if anyone knows of any Workshop Manuals that might be out there for me to look at. Or, if anyone has found a way to get to the head unit some other way, let me know.

Thanks guys.

The 2006 model does not have ipod compatability.

Maybe you have bluetooth but that is also not an option as the iphone does not support AD2P profile -thus it can only be mono.

Aston is working on a solution for older models, but it is not a very high priority and will likely cost more than 1500$ to retrofit.

You are better off just getting an FM transmitter for the iphone that will allow you to stream it in (low quality) wirelessly into the radio.

You may be able to turn up something over on amoc.org but overall I think Moogle's comments are correct.

Was the optical audio system optional or standard? If there is a standard and you have that you chances could be higher since I hear the optical is very limited for expansion/alteration.

Thanks Moogle. A local guy told me that 2005 and up systems had ipod capability and you just had to get to the cable. I'm sure the FM transmitter idea will work but not worth doing if it won't really feel like the sound is coming out of the Premium 700w system. Bummer!

Thanks Superman07. I'll check AMOC.org. Not sure about your question on optical vs standard. Are you asking if it is the standard system or Premium option?

Does anyone know what the Alpine model might be for the 2006 Vantage? I would at least be able to find the specs and even a diagram of the back of the unit to see if there was another way.

Thanks for your help.

I have looked for an answer to this question for the past few weeks. The consensus seems to be that there is no aux input on the radio. Nada...nothing. Our only hope is for a retrofit solution from AM. I can't imagine that something like this would be very high up on the list of things AM would be working on. Its a shame.

Sadly, there is no way to tap directly into the system. Your only options are an FM modulator, or FM transmitter.

' don't know where in Florida you're located, but AM of Tampa has done some great custom installations of satellite radio units into the ashtray
(using an FM modulator). A few of these units have the ability to accept aux line-in signals. So, you could have XM/ Sirius and an extra input... plus, the blessing of AM's warranty.

Yep. I get my service done in Tampa but not a place I can get to very often so I was looking for an alternative. It just seems like there has to be another way to listen to my playlists without having to burn CDs.

Of course, even if the Alpine unit did support it, I can't seem to find any information on removing the dash without hurting it. Maybe I should just give it up.

By the way, when you mention the FM modulator, do you have any more specifics on what that would do for me?

Thanks

How does the antenna feed into the radio? Perhaps you could use a FM direct adapter, ala:

Great question! I can't find any diagrams or useful schematics that would tell me, though. Not sure if they even make a Workshop manual for the Vantage. Have you seen one?

Hope this helps:

Everything is optical on the V8/Db9/DBs

iPod compatability was not available until MY08- when it became standard with the new style center glovebox.

Best solution is to either wait for AM to release something (contact works service)
http://www.astonmartin.com/contactus/worksservice

Or hardwire a FM modulator -better than the wireless solutions available from griffin technologies (itrip) - but requires taking the dash apart -which turns some people off.

Most of the widely available MOST optical bus tap-in solutions are not available for Aston because the company produces so few cars it is uneconomical for a company like dension or tooki to go through the process of reverse engineering the specific codes on the system.

Most of this info comes from the manufacturer, my dealer, or amoc.org.
