Astons with custom wheels?
Astons with custom wheels?
Ive noticed not many guys here do custom wheels. Is it the same on the AMOC forum? I would think that the Vantage would be pretty popular for adding custom wheels.
It's hard to mod an aston martin without looking like a chav. Anything too flashy really ruins the car. The design of the car itself is quite subtle in the first place, and surely that is a factor that buyers liked when choosing it in the first place. To go against all that and add gauché rims seems counter-intuitive.
Perhaps some BBS or certain subtle HRE would look good, but anything with chrome, is out of place.

I know it is a matter of personal taste but I'm w/ Moogle - some slightly darker BBS wheels would be my choice - like the newer ones (aftermarket) I see on some BMWs & P-cars, I am not sure what model number they go by, but they have a slightly larger basket weave. Chrome and the like ... just not for majority of AM owners ... and AMOC is more conservative, they seem to go factory options before aftermarket IMHO. I did purchase aftermarket wheels for my P-cars & BMWs ... again conservative stuff ... and lighter weight than stock. There are no performance track tires for 20+ wheels ... that I know of. I had a beautiful mature model tell me ... "F-cars, those are for flashy twits I do not think twice about... I'll take your Aston any time ... total class" .... and she turns more male heads than anything w/ 4 wheels !!!
I guess 4 porsches with 3 aftermarket wheel changes had me thinking that I would change my Vantage wheels even before I bought it. But I have to admit, I love the wheels. Everything about this car seems right. If I changed, I would like to see a wheel based on the DBS or Vantage RS OEM's. Other than those, I haven't seen any aftermarket wheels that tickle my fancy.
The cut, shape, and finish of HRE are not the same as BBS... I have not been a fan of HRE wheels even on P-cars.

I think the 891R would look good. Similar in design to stock, hidden hardware.

As Moogle and Michael correctly point to, monoblocks with subtle to deep dishes (not lips) are considered more OEM looking yet still retaining a certain "custom" aspect. Its a more subtle approach, which fits the car's design.
Most people that buy Astons probably consider themselves to have a bit more taste, so they won't go for the blinged-out/chrome/24s scene. Although, I've seen a disconcerting number of Vantages with those horrible wheels and body kits (the dark grey Vantage with Mansory kit on another thread springs to mind). Perhaps its the Vantage's lower price point, but we all know money and bad taste are not mutually exclusive.
The HRE Monoblocks are going in the right direction, but IMO 20's have no place on a sporty car. For that matter neither do 19s, unless they are needed to clear some crazy massive brakes. Although the big wheel/rubber band tire look is subjective, I think it looks horrible (especially on a Vantage). To me there's nothing sexier than a lightweight one-piece 17 or 18" wheel wrapped in meaty tires with round shoulders.

Me too. Im a HUGE fan of Kahn styling, and thats the reason I promote it to my customers. Kahn is very clean and classic. Their styling is almost timeless. Its just hard to find people who have good taste like that and are willing to pay the high prices.
I am not too sure as I haven't looked into specifics. You can always go with very strong, very street usable motorsport BBS wheels, which are all custom made to any size/offset/bolt configuration and are around 5kUSD a set.
