911 or V8 Vantage, Still Trying To Decide

Once again, I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond to my earlier post, as I'm still trying to decide on a 911 or V8V. I've been on numerous test drives in each car, and I'm still weighing the pros and cons. They're both great cars, with each offering different aspects of driving. Does anyone know if Aston Martin offers any type of extended warranty that can be purchased? My local dealer in St. Louis is still checking on this for me......hopefully, I'll have an answer from them later today. While I'm not a big extended warranty guy, it seems this could be peace of mind on a high end car. In the mid 70's I briefly owned an MGB convertible. It was a fun car, but I was sitting on the side of the road more times than I care to mention. Fortunately, I'm very mechanically inclined, and always carried my tools in the trunk. I don't think my shade tree mechanic's ability would go over very well with an Aston Martin. Thanks

How long do plan on keeping the car and what do you plan to do with it? Or, what do you want it to do for you?

Also, the dealer should know INSTANTLY if there is an extended warranty available. That is the first and primary item to sell in the Finance Department.

Yes, extended warranty is available on used Aston when I checked last year. I think it is like $2000-2500 a year from the dealer but do an online search on this forum. You definitely want extended warranty on a higher end car like Aston. Should I keep my car, I will get extended warranty when the factory warranty runs out even though I am not a big fan of ext warranty either.

Yes, I think there are actually 3 levels of extended warranty that are available that vary based on the age of the vehicle. I recall a post discussing this on amoc.org. I plan to purchase an extended warranty before my factory one expires as well.

Don't know about in the states (should be the same everywhere) but I purchased an additional 2 years factory warranty on my '06 Vantage for $4500AUD (about $3600USD) just before the expirey of the orginal warranty. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

1.9% financing on all 2009 Porsches except GT-2s is pretty compelling...

You can get a 1 year or 2 year warranty from AM after they do a 140 point inspection. Cost is aprox. 4100 for the 2 year and aprox. 2400 for the one year. You can add the second year anytime during the warranty period.

I've had several 911, and had briefly owned my V8 Vantage and a 996 911 at the same time.

Regarding reliability:
You'll be hard pressed to top a 911, but my early build '06 Vantage has been relatively trouble free. After three years of ownership, I have had no issues which make me question the durability of the Aston.
- I just purchased Aston's extended warranty. It covers most "big ticket" items, but is not an extension of the new car's bumper to bumper... not even close.
The cost was $4000ish for two years, and it can be "sold back" to Aston for a prorated refund if desired. I believe you can continue to buy these warranties (they get more expensive) until the car reaches 75K miles, regardless of its age.

Yes, the Vantage is a very different car than a 911. Sometimes I miss having a 911... and I don't really no why. They're special in their own way.

You'll be happy either way.

I've had both, the Aston does not feel as solid. You need a good dealer close by.
