Install pics of 9500ci, ipod and bluetooth in my Vantage

Benchmark motoring in Bellevue did the work, happy with how everything turned out. The whole fiber optic BS that AM uses really keeps the third parties from getting to do much.... annoying. The radar detector and bluetooth work very well, the ipod has to be toggled with a switch. It takes 5-7 seconds for the ipod to kick in... a bit annoying, but it sounds way better than the radio and I love how they placed the ipod! Too cool. They had to pull the whole coin thing and make a new holder, looks awesome.

The radar detector controls are in a spot where I can rest my hand and hit the mute button if necessary. They made an enclosure for the display, same texture as the OEM cap for the mirror base.

Very nice! Is it front and rear detection and if so, where did they mount the rear sensor? Any pics of that?

It jams from behind, they mounted it on the license plate. There are two jammers in the in the grill in the front. They fabricated brackets for everything...ie no holes were drilled.

If you mean detects from the rear, I'm assuming yes, but can't confirm.

Hi, There is a major speed crackdown here. There are speed traps everywhere and they are ticketing for speeds that they normally haven't ticketed before especially if you are driving a sports car. Had 3 tickets in the last 3 months and if I was driving my 750i sedan, I probably wouldn't have been pulled over. I am seriously looking at having this system installed. Do you have any pics of the front and rear sensor installations ? There is also the control module which has to be mounted under the hood somewhere. Thanks,

Hi, I'll try to post some pics soon. The rear jammer is on the license plate frame, fairly obvious. The front two are hidden in the grill. The electronics fit under the footwell on the drivers side. I think you could mount the rear one down lower by the diffuser and hide it better.

Yup, the cops are getting serious, my wife got a ticket on I-90 two nights ago, for...are you ready....65mph. Unbelievable.

here are the pics

Thanks for the sensor install pics. I got quotes from 2 shops here in town, both said it was about 6 to 8 hours of installation work but one needs the car left overnight and the other can do it in one day straight. About the same price from both so this will be my first add on for the vehicle while I'm waiting for my new monobloc forged wheels that are made to order. Don't know what to do with my existing wheels that are only 1400 km new. Any ideas from those who upgraded their wheels.

What do your rims look like? I may be interested. Can you send a pic?

How much did they charge for the install of the 9500ci?

thanks, mike

$2700 plus taxes for the 9500ci installed. I like where you got the control unit installed so it's easily accessible but not obvious when you look in the car. I have a Roadster so the display unit might be just a bit too obvious above the rear view mirror for me so I'll have to figure something out for that. The front sensors look nice and hidden but the rear sensor is a bit too obvious for the cop behind especially when the first thing they do is look at your rear license place. I wonder why the rear sensors couldn't be hidden behind the mesh grill under the license plate. I was thinking of having it mounted to the mesh grill just beneath the license place. This makes it bit more tucked behind and maybe a little bit less obvious when you are looking at the plate from a standing angle.

As for the wheels, they are 20X9 and 20X11's. Going with 255/35 20's front and 305/35 20 rear but I may change that to 315's because I saw a few posts on here that Pirelli P Zero's tend to run more narrow. They look similar to your wheels but just bigger and wider. I wish I got on this post before I ordered the wheels because from what I have read on here, you would get better performance from 19's with the same width instead. I'll see how much this will fill out the wheel well gap and may order a set of springs through RSC to lower the car a bit if the wheels don't do the trick. I'll post photos after thing are installed. Cheers and thanks again for your help.

By the way, have you gotten any speeding tickets since you got the system installed ?

thats about what I paid for the install, but it counted the custom enclosure for the display. I don't think it would be too much even with the convertible, it is only about an inch more forward than the base. I saw that other people mounted it pointing at the driver on the base of the mirror.

The argument I got for mounting the sensor on the license plate, was that the cops aim at the plates. It would look better lower, but not sure it would be as effective.

I've been lasered twice since I got it, one time in town, I got to see the cop as I drove by... then he pulled out and followed me for a while. I know it worked :-) My commute is pretty boring, and on I-90 you cannot speed, the cops are out in force 24/7, so I don't even think about it.

Dr. Scoles, I realized when you replied to my earlier post asking what my rims looked like, I may have wrongly assumed that you were referring to the new rims that I was waiting on. If you were actually inquiring about the rims that will be coming off my car when I receive my new ones, they are 2009 factory 20 spoke diamond cut silver rims with factory Bridgestone Potenza tires. I bought the car new and the car has about 1400 Km on it so the rims and tires are almost brand spanking new. Let me know if you are interested.

The radar antenna can be mounted behind the grill, but the jammer heads need to be mounted with a clear view of sight to the front of the car. If you mount them behind the grill, you significantly reduce their ability to jam a LIDAR gun. Of course if you're just running them in detection mode, then it doesn't matter as much.

I speak from experience with the jammer heads of a 9500ci installed in my BMW. At first I had them behind a grill and had a police friend try to clock me with a ProLaser III. Got a reading everytime. Moved them so they had a clear view of the road ahead and got about 80% jam. Made sure they weren't towing in or out, and made sure they were level, and it jammed 100% of the time on multiple runs.

If you're in the Atlanta area, I can set you up to test your setup.

Here are some pics of my install on a DB9. Everything I have is mounted without any obstructions and the system has worked perfectly for a year now. Sometimes I think it's too sensitive as I can pick up some signals miles out. Although there is no rear radar detector, detection from the rear is excellent. I didn't have the car for an hour and had a Texas State Trooper looking at his Laser gun wondering what was wrong as I passed him by.

But my dealer did the install and had a ton of experience with the 9500ci. The slight tilt to the outside for the front laser shifters follows the contour of the front bumper perfectly and has worked in every instance. I didn't want the rear shifter installed on the plate as I just thinks it makes it look too obvious. Without pointing things out, no one has ever asked what the shifters / detector are because they just don't spot it on their own.

Best $1,800 I have spent on that car and the updates are easy to install.
