AM daily driver?
AM daily driver?
I'm currently looking at a 2007 V8 Vantage and a 2004 911 Turbo to buy. Both are about the same price, but I'm curious about which one will perform better as a daily driver. Either way, they're both gorgeous cars, but I'm wondering what the AM owners have to say about daily driving (70 miles round trip x 5 days a week on the interstate).
Thanks.
Thanks.
I'm surprised they are the same price. For a 996 turbo, I would have thought the price would be around 45K.
Regardless, for a daily driver, I would probably choose the turbo. I think that the price to maintain the turbo (if it's had the 30K maintenance) would be less and there are a lot more independent shops that can take care of it. If you like to work on your car, the turbo is very easy to work on for oil changes, brake pads, brake fluid, etc. Also with a chip/exhaust it's wicked fast.
I haven't had any problems with my Aston and I love it, but just regular maintenance is pretty expensive.

Hello, I had an AM V8 Vantage 4.3L Sportshift of 2008 and a Porsche 996 Turbo, I prefer drive the Aston every day sinceresly because is more elegant than the Porsche, and all is ok, if I were you I will buy the AM because looks more selected than the Porsche. ITs manual or sportshift the one you want to buy?
The price is a little different, you are right, but both are within my limited budget and I can't help but love them both. Seattle-I'm absolutely with you about the maintenance costs. That's actually my biggest concern. Marcos-Also agree with you that the AM is much more exclusive.
My biggest concern is the cost of keeping either one running when I would put 15ish on them a year. I'm more worried about running into major maintenance issues that would push me to having to trust my back up (70 Chevelle) as a daily driver. Any comments on either's annual expenses and reliability?
Thanks

My turbo was bullet proof. I did the oil changes, brakes, and fluids, so the cost was minimal. The 30 K service is expensive, since it requires the plugs to be changed. There's so much info on upkeep on the turbo on the net (renntech, rennlist, 6speed, etc) that you can really do a lot of the work yourself.
I have the workshop manual for the Aston, but it really doesn't give a lot of info. Maintenance will run 1200-2000/yr via the dealer. I haven't seen any reliable independents in the Seattle area. Had the Aston a year (10K miles) and haven't had any issues. However, if something does go wrong, the Aston is going to be expensive.
I like my Aston more than the turbo, but for a daily driver, I would probably get the turbo. However, a 7 yo car is probably going to have more things needing fixing then a 4 yo car. How about a 997.1 C2S? Another great, reliable car. Plus the interior/looks are, IMHO, better than a 996 turbo.

If you are worried about cost of maintenance then I wouldn't recommend an AM. I don't know enough about the 911T but I'm sure it's not cheap to maintain either. From all the research I've done an AM is about 2k per year in normal maintenance.

Yeah, i love the AM, but think I'll have to get a book or two published before I'm able to confidently plop down biscuits for one. You are a voice of reason, Seattle, but I do like the hips of a turbo more than a carrera. I might have to take a closer look, though, because I'm in no rush and want to buy the right car. RossL, thanks for the answer too. Noble M400, very nice! Any chance that you're wanting a overused 07 Mustang GT so much that you're willing to part with that Noble? I'm your man if you are. I promise to take good care of it
