Car is back, running fine - but....

Got the Vantage S back from having the AMS unit replaced and it's running great.

Two things I noticed after the car was returned (they may have been issues right after delivery but I didn't really spend much time in the car before I had the AMS problem).

1. Leather on lower front part of driver's seat undone. There is a plastic trim strip along the edge of the leather which has a channel that looks like it may fit over some type of bar. I can't seem to find where it would go.

2. Something is vibrating on the passenger side when the audio system plays certain frequencies. Is this a common issue?

1. Yes. This is pretty common to fall off. If you roll it into it self it clips on the seat cushion area front.

2. No rattles are not to common, but they do happen. Without hearing the noise its hard to say what it is.

Had a rattle like this in my 2007 V8V. Turned out to be the defrost vents. Would never have imagined that.

What was wrong with the vent? How did you fix it? I think I have the same problem.

I've had the screws loose for the vents, which don't keep them secured..plastic loose on plastic gets a nice vibration noise when listening to music or driving on bumpy roads..etc

Like AMFixer pointed out, noises aren't normal..I have seen stuff in the past, nothing serious..but if it's a concern, no reason why it shouldn't be checked out and resolved at the dealer when you have a chance..keep us posted on there find

Dealer said that they couldn't alleviate the problem and that it was "normal." They also said that other vantages they had did the same thing. They couldn't locate anything specific that would be causing the vibration.

Wow, ok that sucks if they didn't hear it....do you still notice the concern, if so..when..with music?..all volume levels?..on bumpy roads?..when vehicle is cold?..I can help you tackle this yourself if the concern is still present but just need more info

They did hear it. The solution, in their opinion, was to turn down the bass (my bass settings were +1 and the sub was +1 - nothing excessive). Also, they recommended listening to the system at less than 50% of the volume.

I hear it at certain frequencies. Lower female voices on talk radio are a big culprit but with music I hear it as well. With my test tone CD it is mostly in the 100-200Hz region. Bumpy roads or vehicle temp don't have an effect.

This kind of answer would drive me crazy.. Bring bass and volume down.. You have a brand new and expensive car if you want to listen to the music rattle free you should be able to do it and it is their job to fix it. It is not normal to have a rattle, I do not have a rattle and I push my premium sound very loud sometimes. Because some other cars also are defective doesn't make it ok for yours to be. I really don't know what your options are but I wouldn't settle for less than what I paid for a rattle free sound system that I can push as hard as it was designed to be. I hope they find a better solution for you than lowering the volume. Good luck.

The dealership fixed it. I read that the screws are in a very awkward spot and they were able to finagle it. The service dept. did not enjoy the exercise, but got it done. No more noise.

That is correct. It was done at the Dallas dealership, but John Eagle also owns the Austin Aston dealership. The service guys split time for a while as the Austin store got up and running. I had a Vertigo Blue 2007.

These screws are notorious for coming loose and enabling the vent covers to vibrate in place. And the screws are difficult to tighten, even with a flexible or angled screwdriver. I had to get my girlfriend to operate the screwdriver (small hands) while I coached her as to the location of the screw heads while standing outside of the car. The outside screw on each vent is not too hard to access, but the inside screw on each is really hard to reach and even harder to turn.

When I took my '07 Vantage in for service, I requested that they remove each of the four screws and replace them with some Locktite on the threads (the non-permanent variety). Never got to see if this worked, however, because I left the dealership with my V12V.
