DBS wheels on '06 DB9..?

Did a quick search, nothing conclusive...

My rears were getting a little bare, so rather than just replace tyres as I go, I got a good deal on a set of 20" DBS wheels with Pirelli P-Zeros on them.

Currently have 19" Sports Pack with RSC spacers on them, has anyone had any experience of fitting the DBS 20" wheels to the DB9? I am aware there is a slight possibility of arch fuling during extreme suspension travel, however I might be able to have that dialled out somehow. They are the 2010 10 spoke (5 double spoke) design.

Wondering if their extra width helps the wheels fill the arches better to give the effect my spacers currently do? Anybody got pictures, I can't be the first to do this?

You colonials tend to change your wheels more than we do in the motherland, it's frowned upon to change what Aston hath decreed is right and proper...

I had a set of those same rims on my 2007 V8V. They fit fine.

The fronts will stick out 8mm, so that's probably Ok. But the rears will stick out a full inch+ as compared with the stock wheels. That seems like it might be a problem. Look at your rears, now imagine the face sticking out another inch (27.5mm). Does that look OK in your mind's eye?

A creedo to live by

I see you have spacers on your stock wheels. To see what the DBS wheels will be like, just subtract the spacer thickness from 27.5mm, and that's how much farther out the DBS rears will protrude. On the front it'll probably be the same because I imagine the spacers are on the order of 6-8mm to begin with, so that means the front DBS wheel will be essentially at the same plane as the DB9 wheel+spacer (for all practical purposes).

And don't be misled by Vantage guys. Just because DBS wheels fit a Vantage doesn't necessarily mean they'll fit a DB9. The Vantage has much more flared rear fenders than the DB9 thereby accommodating the significantly wider AND pushed out DBS rear wheel.

Let us know how it turns out...

Ahhh, we haven't met have we... I never, ever leave anything alone, below me sits a garage full of messed-with cars! In the next few weeks I'll be having my V12 removed and rebuilt to some ungodly power figure (550bhp+) by Bamford Rose, I'll have a thread running on here and Pistonheads to let peple know how it goes - that's the reason for the wheels, not just aesthetics, I'll need that extra bit of rubber to get the power down! Brakes are already done before people panic...

I currently have H&R springs so the car is an inch lower than standard and the spacers make it 20mm wider than standard so I am used to my car having a different stance - as the DBS and DB9 share almost everything under the skin (unlike the V8 and V12 Vantages), the wheels will fit without issue, but hopefully not foul the arches - that's my only worry.

Can I still use my Titanium wheel nuts..? See no reason why not

Thanks for the info! From memory my spacers are 20mm, so I guess I will have to imagine an extra 7mm, should be no problem at all visually, it's just where they end up at maxiumum suspension travel! I will be having adaptive damping fitted at Bamford Rose so we might be able to re-jig the system to make them fit anyway, they're a pretty important part of the package I think.

Nom de plume?

No Marcos we haven't met but I am aware of a PH contributor who writes just like you, a bloke named Yeti.

I too am a Mike fan and am looking forward to the 3rd British invasion.

The first, Redcoats and all, was rebuffed.
Second, The Beatles, were adopted as citizens of the World.
And now Mike.

He has big shoes to fill. Something like Father Christmas. He'll bring hipo parts and horsepower...we'll purchase the parts and help assemble them.

When are you going to grant Mike his exit visa? It's 2012 already, the North Americans are growing impatient.

Looking forward to your threads Marcos/Yeti. I will be tracking the progress closely as I am planning some similar mods on my V12V. I'd also like to be in the 550 bhp range (okay, maybe a bit more ).

That's me! I'm 'Marcos' on every forum except Pistonheads where the name was already taken. I'm Yeti after my preferred brand of mountain bike, made in Colorado...

Sounds like a good few US guys are getting ready for the Bamford Rose upgrades now, I haven't even visited Mike's workshop yet but will be going up for a service this month, get these wheels fitted and then we'll figure out a timescale for my work. I guess he wants the V12 stuff fitted and tested on my car before he plans his 'invasion', the V8 upgrades are ready to go - I have been in the test car, ly fast!

Marcos/yeti... Where did you source your spacers and springs? I too am picking up a db9 and think those would be great upgrades for the car.

What's all this about bamford rose, Mike, some sort of invasion? I'm on the USA side of the pond and new to the AM scene lol!

Hi Sunir, do a search for a garage called 'Bamford Rose', they're ex-Aston powertrain engineers and are now producing upgrades and offering full rebuilds in the UK. I belive the plan to hop across the pond and install their kits en masse to the US prior to perhaps settign up here. Others know more than me about it!

My springs are H&R (I belive others use Eibach) and made a world of difference, my spacers were from RSC tuning who are very well known on here. Car will need a very specific geometry set up by someone who knows their stuff, but a few mods can transfrom the handling into something far more sports-like but still a terrific GT car.

Thanks Stuart, you're a star!! No Rick to ask anymore sadly

Glad the 20s are at the rear, if the new wheels have a 27mm offset then they'll only be another 7mm from where they are now. That's isn't bad at all, can live with that!

^^^ I had a nice chat with Stuart today over at RSC...very helpful and informative :-) thanks Stuart. He's got me on the right track with the spacer setup and springs, same sort of setup you have I think... 15mm front, 20mm rear, and the H&R springs for a sporty drop.
