2012 Vantage S - Dyno

So I put enough miles on the old girl to change the oil and I figured it was time to get a baseline run. I plan on monkeying around with the exhaust a little bit. Race cats in particular, they are cheap and easy. I'm not expecting much gain but for under $1000, its cheap enough and it should add a few decibels to the exhaust note. Incidentally, I have measured around 98 Db on the stock system, unfortunately I left the meter at home on dyno day so that number does not directly correlate to this dyno run. A/F was not hooked up.

This is a completely stock 2012 V8 Vantage S with around 1500 miles. I would love to see results other folks have had with similar 2009+ V8 models.

There are a few dynos on here and the cats have proven to show great gains (mine 18RW on a 4.3). Your numbers are pretty spread out. What dyno did you use and what correction factor?

I was surprised the info wasn't printed on the graph. That kind of data is the most common question people ask.

The dyno is a dyno com 1500+ AWD
I have no clue what the smoothing was set to but I would guess maximum.... The power curves look pretty smooth.

I don't understand the range of curves, but it looks like they are different based on A/F ratio. As we know, A/F ratio of about 12.5:1 produces max HP, so an A/F ratio of 9 is way too rich. What I don't understand is why the Torque (and HP) are so widely different below 3,000 RPM?

It was part throttle below 3000, the dyno operator did not go WOT until 3k rom even though he started recording earlier than that. That's normal

Looks like an base models are inertia roller type dyno with a low correction factor. Not really possible to calculate back to crank HP, but it will be useful for measuring gains for new mods and upgrades.

I agree 9 is very rich, mine went down that low as well. Tune should pickup a healthy amount

Power announced by Aston Martin is:
Max power 321 kilowatts
(430 bhp/436 PS) at 7300 rpm
Max torque 490 Nm (361 lb ft)
at 5000 rpm
This is much low, just?

If the Black, Blue and Green are only A/F ratio differences, it's incredible you could get 30+ extra Peak HP by getting the A/F right.

I'm sorry that I didn't clarify in the original post but the A/F meter was not connected for this run. As I do not have the ability to tune the car right now, I did not go thru the trouble of connecting the sensor. I guess 9.0 is just the default reading.

I was not operating the dyno (it's a friends shop) but it was explained that this chart measured HP at the wheel. The first numbers seem to be in line with a 12% drivetrain loss, which I think is realalistic, albeit optimistic. The dyno is a dynocom machine, which I am not familiar with (Dynojet being the norm in my experiences). The owner indicated that the machine made calculation adjustments as you progressed. I'm not sure what that means but for bragging purposes, I'm sticking with the 405 number... as if one could brag about that.

Honestly, on that specific dyno type, the drivetrain loss could be lower than 10%. Even at 10% that puts you at 440hp (optimistic at best). Either way, what's important is the delta from before/after mods.

spamv8 is infamous around these parts
Here's the Dyno on my stock 2011 Vantage N420. Like you, I wanted to get a good baseline prior to any upgrades (CATS). my numbers are closer to your first run.
