F Type!
F Type!
over here in South Africa everyone is ooooing and aaaahing about the new jag F type...... I drive a vantage and still prefer it>
Do we need to re think this??? im feeling a bit lonely so thought I would find compassion on the AM bible thread
I must add that all who are oohing and aaaahing cannot afford either and are normally the joe soaps who have never owned a car more powerful than a citi golf, yet they have the most to say!!

I actually just traded my '11 V8V against a V8S F-Type yesterday. I love both but the F-Type is just
to drive, puts a serious smile on my face every time I hear that ridiculous exhaust crack and bang.

Im assuming you traded the V8 Vantage 2011 for the F Type?.... so does that mean you got the F type and some change?
my car has a much more aggressive sound than the V8 supercharged Jag any day, but we in SA dont have any restrictions on exhaust or emissions so we can trick it properly. Im not sure if the new jag will age as well as a vantage, just my opinion.
But I may get an F Type when the release the coupe down here in a few months

Just got an up close and personal look at the F-Type at a local Jaguar concours. It is a seriously unattractive car with very poor proportions, especially the very tall sides and the econo car interior. I wouldn't trade my XJRS for one, let alone an Aston.
Frankly, Jaguar had an opportunity to come up with something comparable to the E-Type but failed miserably with this bloated Miata. Sorry for anyone that drives this, especially if they had an Aston to begin with.

I drove the F-Type and really like it. It could see it being an "addition to" but not a "replacement for" my Aston.
Oh, and the F-Type's trunk space is ridiculously small. My MX-5 has a larger trunk than that.

I took a close look at the new Jag, as well as test drove one.
I was impressed with the driving experience, but was unimpressed with the quality of many interior & exterior items.
The heat extractor grills were all plastic, which came off very cheap; unlike the AM's which are all either carbon fibre or stainless.
Although the fit & finish is good, the interior comes off pretty much as any other run of the mill luxury car.
The lines on the new jag are quite nice, but it seemed much too tall for a sports car.
Having said that, this is all a matter of personal preference and for the money I think that the Jag is a good value.

The F-type is a great looking car (I prefer it in coupe form) And I admire the leap forward Jaguar has made in design and technology, just look at the new XJ and CX75 both are stunning cars. That being said I just couldn't see myself letting go of my beloved Vantage for an F-type. The Vantage has been around for quiet sometime now, but to me it still has a bit more presence when compared to the baby Jag

Time will be the arbiter respecting aesthetics. Apples and oranges comparison in too many areas IMO. There is something about a manual car, perhaps it is a "control" issue, but for some that is significant to the overall experience. The Aston is the best newer old school car. If one wanted to race, it would be very different. For me, I wouldn't buy an AML car to race unless I was of considerable more means and/or wanted to have the most attractive car running. Also, the F-type definitely has that mass produced feel in the cabin, which isn't awful, (we tolerate the less than quality feel of the volvo stalks, etc) but falls short of not just the Aston, but many others. Shapes and odd angles only become annoying overtime.
I posted this previously:
"I recently had a chance to have a good look at the F-Type. I've always been a Jag fan, and I've had an XK140 and an E-Type. I was very excited to see the new car. IMO, it's very, very nice. But it's not even close to being as nice as a V8V. It may well have more tech, but it doesn't look or feel anywhere near as expensive or as finely crafted as the Aston. The difference in quality of the interior materials is massive. The Aston looks like it's worth every single penny of the difference in the cars' list prices. I really like the F-Type and I hope it does well. But the V8V looks and feels like a car in a completely different price range. I don't think there is anything wrong with this, either, as this has always been the case with Jags and Astons, and both are great cars."
None of this has changed, but now I've driven the F-Type, both the V6S and the V8S. They drive very, very well. The V6 handles very well, sounds really good, and is plenty quick. The V8S is a beast, VERY fast, but you can really feel the extra weight in the nose. Lots of fun anyway. Also, so far anyway, it can't be had with 3 pedals and a gear lever.
My '09 V8V, after nearly 4 years, still feels great dynamically IMO, and it just makes me want it much more than the F-Type does. I'd happily have an F-Type in addition to the Aston, but certainly not in lieu of.

As I have said before, the F-type is too tall giving it an odd proportion. Also the frt end is another stab in the dark at what the face of Jag could be....

Drove it the other day too. The V8 exhaust crackling is just intoxicating.
Word has it the coupe version will be at the LA Auto show. Depending on price and availability of stick shift, I *may* trade in my V8 vantage.

^^^^ Never understood why people liked the snap, crackle, pop exhausts. I prefer a clean F1 wail or throaty growl than the pops on overrun. Pops are caused by unburnt fuel igniting in the hot exhaust. That may be fine for an afterburner on a jet fighter, but in a sports car? To me, it would be a greater engineering achievement to design an engine where no fuel get wasted outside the combustion chamber of a cylinder.
Saying this, however, I have been told it looks pretty cool when 2 foot flames shoot out of the twin center exhausts of my Esprit.
