Aston Martin Buyer's-Owner's Guide

Hi Guys and Gals,

I just wanted to say another huge thank you to all of you have supported The Definitive Guide's ongoing development. Just as in the UK Aston owners seem to be helpful, friendly and knowledgeable bunch. Hopefully that will help more people join the marque as Aston Martin could certainly do with selling more cars to the huge US market.

The 7th edition of the guide is now out and including the very latest V12 Vantage S, Vanquish Volante etc, with extra information and updates in all sections. I'll now try and sort the next PDF update..not enough hours in the day.

Here is a link to the latest contents page............
http://www.astonmartinreview.co.uk/CONTENTSwebsite.pdf

And if you haven't taken the plunge yet remember you can't take it with you (although my father-in-law is trying to!!!!) so time to buy your first Aston or even better (for you forum veterans) your NEXT Aston - your temptation starts here http://www.astonmartinreview.co.uk/

Thanks for the heads up.

Just bought it. I buy every issue; the unfortunate compunction of the collector mindset.

Captain sir, you can buy it direct from here http://www.astonmartinreview.co.uk/

You can also buy via Amazon.com, but the shipping costs make it more expensive than buying direct.

The problem with specialist titles like these is they don't sell in enough volumes for the big publishers to print big stocks cheaply and distribute worldwide. Hence the reason it's not on the shelves in S.A.

You can use the Buy it Now link 2/3rd's of the way down and select the US/ROW option, its £29 including airmail via secure Paypal payment. Quite a few have already gone to South Africa

If/when I buy a V12V S, I'll also buy the latest bound version again too. Great work Grant. Keep it up!

Are you being tempted? It is an even more awesome beast than the already awesome standard V12, just the small matter of the price to change?

I am tempted but I'm concerned about the transmission. It sounds very fast (70 ms?) but I've heard others say that it's not much of an improvement over the ASM2, which seems to come up short in comparison to the automated manuals of Aston's competitors. So, I'm going to wait until I see some reviews.

Yes! This is the ONE BOOK I keep in my library on my side table next to my reading chair. It's an extremely valuable and honest resource and don't paint the marque as perfect in every way, which is where the real value is in it. It tells you what to look for, what to avoid, what things cost...anyone that is considering buying an Aston should buy this book and study it.

I have the upgraded Aluminum Grille in my Vantage, and there as even a comment in the book that 'if you buy this, it tends to waterspot when you wash the car' or words to that effect and I chuckled when I read that because it takes forever to mop all the water off it when you wash the car. Spot on.

It is better than ASMII, but I understand where you are coming from with regards to the dual clutch systems as their auto function start/stop pick up is much better. But then again even Porsche have engineered in a sports plus setting to their PDK to try and create the excitement that a fast bore single clutch system can offer. I also feel you may end up leaving your dual clutch in auto-mode removing one layer of involvement, but as you say time will tell and meantime the manual V12 is still awesome.

Cheers Duane, we have also added more to the inspection/what goes wrong section in the 7th edition - to cover issues that are becoming more prevalent as the cars age, like the increase in paint bubbling, etc.

Right it's getting late here in the UK..I'm off for today

Funny. There is only one book on my nightstand and it is the bible…the Aston Martin bible written by Grant Neal. Thanks for the great work. Looking forward to my PDF update. Hopefully some day you'll have a digital copy for my iPad. Cheers.

Baker19 will become famous soon enough
Convinced me to buy my Vantage this week!

I've been on the fence about pulling the trigger on a used Vantage for several months now. Lurking / reading through many posts here on this forum convinced me that this was the "must read" for anyone considering an AM. I ordered it direct from the UK and it arrived quickly. I frankly couldn't put it down. What a wealth of knowledge this book contains! The details of each model year and pros / cons of various options convinced me to step up and buy a 2009 Vantage this week. I fly out next week to finalize the transaction and have it loaded on an enclosed transport and sent to its new home. That costs many many extra $$$ but I'm convinced after reading through everything it will be worth it.

Hi Karl, Hope you are aok? I agree about a digital copy, a PDF version is possible (although it would be a huge file) and easier for me to update quickly but in honesty the problem is one of security. Once something is released as a PDF there are pirate upload copies popping up every where and I don't know how to control that, specialist titles like this have to be a labour of love anyway as you never cover the hours spent putting them together. I'm open to ideas

Fantastic news CONGRATULATIONS, an 09MY is a great choice and I am excited for you. This is not just a car, it is a new life experience, so get the comfortable chair ready for the garage and get ready for lots of admiring glances and positive comments.
Please post photos in this thread when your new beast arrives along with details of the specification you have chose.

Grant - your book is spectacular. I just took delivery of my '10 Vantage about a month ago. I'm finding so much helpful information, it's a great read. Very well done!

Cheers,

Jim

PS- Like all the others are posting, I'm spending w-a-y too much time reading it (according to my wife).
