2016 Aston Martin Vanquish Getting a Mercedes Engine?

According to Motley Fool, Aston will get bespoke V-8s from AMG, developed exclusively for Aston Martin.

Repost... But this picture is excellent! It really shows the lines of the Vanquish well and makes it look amazing. Even in that green.

I'll bet the press got it wrong - they saw 'Vantage' and they used 'Vanquish' instead.

I agree. The Vantage is their current oldest model and I'd assume will be next to get an overhaul.

The strange thing about the Mercedes/AMG deal is that they have only mentioned V8's, not V12s in the press releases and discussions. It is not clear they will get a V12 from AMG.

Has anybody seen anything clarifying this issue?

^^^This is what I've been wondering about. The press releases only speak of V8s. As far as I know, MB is no longer making V12s. My hope is that Aston develops their own V12 engine that integrates technologies they obtain from the MB V8s.

It has been stated in quite a few places by Dr Bez that the V12 will continue for several years to come, as many as 10. AMG tie in is only for the V8.

Pagani has their own bespoke V12 from AMG, it is like 6.0L and puts out 720 HP. I suppose they will continue with that in their cars. Hard to imagine a Pagani Huayra with a V8! That is one engine I would not mind sharing in an Aston, or even getting it with slight modification.

M-B/AMG V12s are still here -- in the S65, SL65 and CL65.

Aston Martin just doesn't have the R&D money to develop new engines so it's smart of them to third party an engine that comes from a reputable Mfg. that is going to be around. Otherwise AM will eventually run out of money and be a worthless car company. Now that would be a shame. So they are doing the right thing. Good for them.

cmusgrove is infamous around these parts
Went to an Aston event in Dallas recently. The consensus is that AMG is being sourced to produce the new line of V8 engines starting in the Vantage of course (not the Vanquish).

Rumour has it that the new engine will be a twin-turbo V8 at 4.0L. Yes, Aston engineer confirmed that he spoke to some insiders and that will be the engine at this point.

AMG will also be producing a new gearbox. Word is that there will be two offerings: Dual-plate gearbox and a twin-clutch gearbox option as an upgrade. New engine management of course

Estimates for the power will be close to 500HP and 500 Torque.

They are also developing an all new chassis and moving away from the V-H architecture from the mid 2000's.

New body design to follow the Vanquish/One-77 theme for model year 2016 also.

THe V8s and 12s haven been built in germany for years. No problem if AMG is the engine builder.

This is a bit sad if true. The exhaust note, which is one of the best parts of an Aston, just won't be the same.

Understood, but still. One of the things that people like most about Astons is the exhaust note. To surrender that would be a mistake IMO. There are other ways to improve fuel economy (cylinder deactivation, etc.).
