Thumbs up Reverse Camera Finally Available from Factory

Any body seen or heard from their dealer about the factory supplied reverse cameras? They apparently come with factory backed warranty and fit all model years except 2012! Friggin cool! I can upgrade my Aston now!

It's already included in 14MY and newer Vantages. As of 2018 it will be mandatory on all new vehicles sold in the US. Upgrades to prior Astons varies depending on model year: More recent cars (13MY and newer) have guide lines superimposed on the live video that aid in backing up using steering angle as an input. Pre 12MY cars only have the video sans the guide lines.

Here is the official Aston text:

REVERSING CAMERA KIT
Our Aston Martin rear view camera kits for the V8 and V12 Vantage range offer a valuable upgrade.
Consisting of a precision made wide-angle camera mounted discreetly above the rear number plate, the kits provide significantly improved visibility when reversing and confidence when manoeuvring in tight spaces.

When Reverse gear is selected, a clear, wide-angle image is displayed on the navigation screen. The screen reverts to normal as soon as the driver selects Park, Neutral or Drive.

VEHICLES UP TO & INCLUDING 11MY
The camera upgrade kit has been designed to be quick and easy to integrate with the vehicle’s existing electronic architecture, and conforms with factory standards. A special 0 Lux camera has been selected to ensure clear vision, even in very low light conditions.

VEHICLES FROM 13MY ONWARDS
The same as the original factory-option camera kit, this also incorporates guide lines to help the driver maintain the optimum angle and position when parking.

Well it is a little more inconvenient in our AM's. I don't personally drive with my NAV screen up all the time. To use the reverse through the NAV screen it would need to be up, which means popping it up whenever you reverse.

Does the screen automatically popup in the MY 14's (and newer) when the camera is switched on?

The Nav screen automatically pops up when reverse is selected and folds down when moving forward. Obviously if the Nav is in use the view just changes. My car is a 2012.5 V12 Vantage and has the 2013 and newer camera setup.

What makes you think that I would have any info, hey...?

I *heard* that the kit is $1104.21 for the kit alone, $1744.21 installed. Since there is a software update required, the dealer network or anyone with AMDS is the place to go for the upgrade.

I think it is a pretty good option, reasonable price all things considered and it should reflect well on resale. Most buyers will pay a premium for this option I think.

The US Dealers should all have 1 of each (early & late) kits on auto-order so you should act fast if you want one you can snap one up quick, demand will probably be high for these.

If you're in the DC area and want one retrofitted, drop me an email and I'll hook you up!

Funny timing as I just bought my car partly because it didn't have the (useless to me) nav system. I like the clean dash look. I've been reading here for years about people trying to retro something and had pretty much given up on it ever happening.

So, I guess for the nav option plus another ~$2K it turns into something useful - nearly $7K total. That seems like a lot for backing up.

I do have to say though, that in my friends Audi R8, with even worse rearward visibility it is helpful. I just still find I use/trust the mirrors more for some reason.

For those of us that already have nav and long curved driveways, its worth it... Two weeks ago i had the car in for service, now ill have to wait for next year!!

As for poor rear visibility, the f-type coupe is pretty bad.

Exactly as you thought. Have a 2014 amv8. The image is crisp with the usual guide lines etc. Never had one in my previous AM. Nice to have now.

It looks like the version for the earlier Vantages will fit yours too.
"We are making two kits available immediately. The first is suitable for all Vantage, DB9 and Rapide models up to, and including, 11MY. The second is suitable for Vantage models from 13MY onwards. Please note that whilst there is not currently a solution available for 12MY Vantage, we are investigating"

Interesting, but I'd be more interested in a post-2012 navi update kit. I already have backup sensors, why is a camera needed?

Don't forget the $3K for the new clutch after all the backing up.
