DB9 Headliner
DB9 Headliner
So I've had this idea about doing some custom work on my headliner and I'm finally going to be moving forward with the project since winter has set in here in the Midwest and I get to just stare at my car for the next 6 months or so..
I want to do a diamond quilted pattern in the headliner. Finding the material was the biggest challenge so far. My car is Obsidian black with Tailor Grey alcantara headliner etc. I thought I could find an alcantara "type" material that would match (sensuede, etc) but nothing I could find from numerous manufactures in the U.S matched exactly. So I wound up buying the material from the company in the UK that supplies Aston Martin to guarantee I got the exact same material. I'd list the name and contact information of the company but I'm pretty sure that would violate the forum rules, but if anyone is interested I'd be happy to share so please feel free to PM me. They were very easy to work with and even sent me samples free of charge to assure me the match would be exact. Really great people.
My concern now is removing the factory headliner. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions regarding this? It seems like I should just be able to pop loose the piece covering the inner "A" pillar and over the door glass area and the headliner should just pop out?? Any help or suggestions would be great.. Thanks in advance, and I'll be sure to share some pictures as the project moves along.

I just reglued my headiling as the foam had disintegrated under our wet and hot weather (Caraibbean island).
You will need to remove:
1-Instruments cap,unclip
2-Both lower panels of the dash, unclip
3-Glove box, unbolt, taking care not to break the rope retaining the glovebox
4-Air bag pannel, remove bolts from behind glovebox, then unclip gently as it is pre cut for air bag deployment
5-Driver side dash trim (the one with the air con vent) unclip
6-Passenger side dash trim, unclip + remove bolt (hidden by the air bag cover)
7- Front panels trim, unclip and bolts
8- The two arches, start by prising them at the rear where it slides under the leather trim working your way toward the front, it is a good idea to order new trim studs.
9- Interior mirror, sunshades and front headling pannel.
Now you should be able to slide the headling through the door after tilting the seats.
Long but not too difficult job,I treated all leather panels prior to reffing with Gliptone.
Could you please PM the company name in the UK and if you have a contact name.

FYI Gulf Fabrics in Tampa, Florida is the only authorized distributor of Alcantara in the USA. You can do a web search to find them. Ask for Dino or Barbara and they can send you a small sample so you can match the color to your car. They carry all colors and usually have them in stock.

I got one and I sent you a reply.. You didn't get? Thanks for the pictures. My headliner is out and at the upholstery shop right now. It's supposed to be ready next week. I'll post some pictures once I get it back installed. Thanks again for the help!
