A properly designed AOS not only returns oil in the PCV system back to the oil pan, but removes condensation form the oil prior to returning it. Remove it and the catch can now has to handle any extra oil that the AOS would have handled. That means more frequent emptying of the catch can. IMHO there is no gain here. In an ideal world the catch can would also have the ability to drain back into the crankcase.
