Wide range in parts pricing

Just fyi, I decided to check five different sources for the replacement DB9 Convertible Roof Module I need. The lowest price was $540 and the highest was $1160 for the exact same part number, same updated version.
I'm not a retail professional so I won't try to explain why. But I will shop around a little more thoroughly going forward!

The two things that count really strongly against owning an AM are parts prices and depreciation.

Most of us just accept it.

It's because there are very few resources for those few of us that are DIY owners. And each of those has a different way of doing things.

Dealerships mark up their prices by quite a bit because they're low-volume and high overhead. Online retailers often do a "cost+%" markup. Every retailer has a different price depending on their own cost, their overhead, and their desired profit. Plus buffer for exchange rate fluctuations (I've had a price swing of over $30 overnight for one single part due to that).

You also have to figure in shipping - retailers in Europe might have lower prices, but you're paying higher shipping costs than you'd pay from a retailer that has already moved supply to the US, or from one that sources parts from within in the US.

Btw, are you looking at the original part number or the updated one? There was a huge price increase going from the old one to the new one (nearly double).

Were the sources all dealers, or on line?

Scuderia has probably the best prices, but they make it back with shipping costs.

Just ordered 12 spark plug seals and shipping was $40. I shipped a cable to Belgium and it cost $17.

+1 for HWM.

Always at least 50% off my dealer's prices, usually more. Discounts with your AMOC number too. And shipping is very reasonable.

Both. The high dealer price was $1160 and the low was somewhere between $700 and $800...I recycled the paper and can't remember exactly!

I also confirmed that everyone was quoting the newest version.
