Engage handbrake with button pressed

i am afraid to try this without some kind of confirmation. i've used the handbrake on an incline to help moving off the line and it works fine in the order of. 1) foot brake coming to a stop on hill. 2) pull the parking brake. 3)move foot off the foot brake and onto the gas pedal. 4)quickly pull the handbrake and presses the handbrake button and move it down in one swift motion and release the button until the handbrake lever hit the floor.

now, i've heard that when you're about to engage your handbrake, if you press the button first before you lift the lever, and keeping the button pressed while you lift the lever, it'll actually apply the handbrake but you can quickly put the lever back down with the button still pressed in to quickly release it. so in another words, it's more of a one swift process than two. you wouldn't have to pull, wait, pull/press button, and release. it would just be a press button/pull/lower lever (while button still pressed in).

anyone tried that?

Of course you can. The button doesn't have anything to do with brake application, pressing it is to only disengage the ratchet pawl.

Very useful for deglazing the handbrake pads to get rid of the chirping, or fun turns in the wet parking lot...without food service trays.

This is why I love the hill start assist on the newer models

Handbrake is a good tactic with underpowered cars but it's really useless unless you're on a severe slope. It's also a good tactic until you learn your car, but don't use it as a crutch. On any normal incline it's a nanny like hill assist. You have plenty of power and as long as you're close to your clutch engagement when you slide from brake to gas you'll never move backwards and should be in full command of your car to know how much of the right pedal to apply when you back off the left

On a sever incline it can be prudent to use if you have traffic behind you more for peace of mind. I have a tendency to give it too much gas but I'm getting much cleaner at being seamless in the steep inclines I deal with.

But yes, hold the button the whole time, and know exactly where that point is it frees the brakes because that's where you want to hold the car, so a small move releases them.
