Have you driven the Vantage? Is it a manual or Sportshift? How long have you had the C4?

Have driven, but never owned a V8V.. 3 peddle for sure!!!
Have had many 911s, but never a Aston. Currently have owned this for one year...and on my bucket list is an Aston.

Not crazy at all, the Porsche is a common car, the Aston is rare and exclusive so to speak. No one looks at a 911 nowadays but most will pay attention to the Aston. However, the 911's seem to only be going up in value for the older ones. Not sure if yours is, but I bet it will or is now. Not sure you would want to part with it due to investment material. The Aston will likely stay where it is value wise or go down a bit. So think about that.

Maybe try and pick up a 09 Vantage if you prefer the 4.7 engine and the new dash. But you can get a really nice 07-08 for in the low 40's. Then just buy the Aston and keep the 911.

That is my internal battle..i was offered 48k for the 964, where is it going? Who knows. Unfortunately because of space constraints, cannot justify 2 “toys”.
What attracted me to this car was its color combination Red/Tan and black two tone interior. Seemed very different than the usual Silver variations over Black .

I have owned both the Porsche 944 and a 991 911and have had two V8Vantages. When the people in our Porsche club heard I had an Aston they asked me to bring it to our next drive and dine. And every one liked it and were amazed by the finish and the interior. Go for it I’m sure you will like it.

I've had both and they are both great cars. There's more to life than just Porsches.

Well, here's my Porsche vs. Aston story. I bought a 1990 GP White/black sport seats 911/964 C2 from a friend about 5 years ago. Loved that car and swore I'd never sell it. One Sunday a few months ago, I got a wild hair and decided to put it for sale on Rennlist. At that point, I figured it likely would not increase significantly in value over the next few years - or at least that was my rationalizing the decision to sell it. You obviously know the market for air cooled Porsches. Sold very quickly to a nice fellow in Los Angeles for $49K - about 87K on the clock at the time of sale. I could have probably squeezed a few more bucks out of the car if I had aggressively marketed it, but I wanted it to go to a good home and didn't feel like fooling with a bunch of tire kickers. Could have sold 10 of the things if I'd had them!

I intended to buy a newer 911 (2009+). Drove up to Charlotte to a "high line" used car dealer to look at a GTS on the lot and saw this white/chestnut tan 2013 V8 Vantage, 6 speed. I knew within 60 seconds of seeing the car that, if it cranked on the first try, I was going to buy it. It cranked up and I bought it. Total and complete, irrational and unresearched, no PPI impulse buy. Totally out of character for cautious old me. Wrote a check and drove it off the lot. I have never been more excited to own a car in my life - and that is after owning a bunch of Porsches (all 1990 and older) and a bunch of BMWs (mostly M-cars and mostly older stuff, but did have a 2007 M5 MT car that I got bored with after about 6 months).

Get the Aston. With a manual transmission. You won't regret it. I still am allowed to attend the local PCA chapter meetings with my Aston! Prettiest car there.

I can't understand the mentality of only owning German cars. They have the least "personality" of cars from any country. They're just designed to be perfect instead of interesting, quirky or exciting. Any enthusiast should experience cars designed by people from other places..

I've owned a 964 C2, 993's, 991's and contemporary Astons. To me, I enjoyed the 964 more than any 911 owed.

But, comparing a near 30 year sports car, like a 964 to a 2010 Vantage, a GT car is a bit of a stretch. Depends to how you will be driving it, ie, # of miles a year, primary car, etc. To me, it boils down to which one you enjoy driving more, especially if the Aston is a stick. The 964 is smaller, less comfortable and to me, rare as a Vantage. The 964 will hold it value and probably be more expensive to own bc of its age. Also, there is a 20 year difference in technology. Some people love classic air-cooled Porsche, others want a more modern car. For me, I would take any Aston before a modern Porsche. Don't worry about the PCA crowd, the good guys are car people. The Aston people are wonderful and it may be good to explore another brand and a new audience of club members too.

Good luck.

From an investment standpoint, stick with the 964 especially with the way the market is going

If you're going to jump into a V8V, i'd suggest getting a 4.7 V8V manual. The 4.3l imo leaves something to be desired without some power modifications. The 4.7l market seems to be holding steady just a bit, while the V8Vs seems to be at the floor depreciation (time will tell)

I was in the same boat with 911 vs V8V last year, I went with the V8V as I absolutely love the sound of a v8 with the somewhat analog characteristics for a modern exotic. When I have a need for rear seats, I'll jump into a 911

No one bats an eyelash at any of my friend's 911s. Everyone breaks their neck when my Aston rolls by

i never had an 964 but G-models, 933 and an 997 right now along with my 4.7l Aston.
The Aston does (almost) everything better than the 997 and feels a lot more special.

Three points go to the 997:
- DSC (stability control): My Vantage regulates way before you actually need help.
- Clutch feel: The Porsche has better clutch feel while the Aston clutch feels clunky. I already went to the dealer but they said that is normal.
- Heel toe driving: Vantage has no standing gas pedal while the Porsche is a heel toe machine.
