Apparently Aston will take your classic Aston and turn it into an electric vehicle. Is this the future of classic cars? I sure hope not.

Well I guess it is not as bad as Prince Charles’ white wine fueled Aston. Maybe he will be one of the first to convert?

Isn't that a heritage car that is a newly built replica, and not destroying an original?

If Aston does that to an Aston it is slightly different than someone else converting it. It's a part of the car's legacy manipulated by the manufacturer FWIW

Why? Don't understand the point (other than to ruin a perfectly good car). Is it so you can pretend to be environmentally conscious?

The central component of the electric powertrain is what Aston Martin refers to as an EV cassette. It’s a lithium-ion battery pack that’s attached to the body via the original engine and transmission mounts, meaning there’s no need to cut or weld anything under the sheet metal.

[...]

Aston Martin noted the conversion is reversible, so owners can return their car to its original configuration at any time.

I bet the updated car will be far faster than the gas engine, but there goes the mellifluously glorious tones of fossil fuels being combusted. Also I assume they have a good plan for distributing the battery weight so that the handling of the car isn't impaired. Very difficult and very impressive that they are able to do this. But I still wouldn't consider it. I think the Jaguar installation is over a million dollars and you have to bring the car.

Clearly, the electric versions use far less fossil fuels and get much better mileage per dollar of energy. But You would probably have to drive this car to mars and back to save enough on gas to even break even on this conversion. A hundred million miles at least. I don't care how comfortable the seats are, I don't have that kind of time.
