Little heads up for those of you looking to buy or sell a car with extended warranty.

Recently ran into a bit of a headache with the extended warranty on Centenary 23.

Turns out, the warranty will only transfer within the first 30 days of sale; and more importantly, only once between a person to person sale.

A few things to look out for:
  • Buying a car from a non-AM dealer with a stated AM warranty very likely is misleading/wrong
  • Buying a car and not transferring the warranty within 30 days of sale leads to headaches
  • Buying a car that has a warranty that has been transferred once already, will also lead to headaches.

The only way I got through and had the warranty end up in my name was making a plea as to it being my first AM at 33, and my interest in staying loyal to the brand. Just thought I would share with the group, if even 1 person ends up making the right choice because of it, then at least I've helped a bit.

Cheers.

I ran ran into the same issue at an Aston dealer. Completely ruined my expierence after the fact. Turns out the transfer is only valid between private parties. If the used vehicle is on a lot and still shows warranty it cannot be transferred. It was a total headache and required the intervention of Aston Martin America.

I’ve never gotten over the expierence and to this day despise my only dealer in the state. They should have known the policies and in my head, I think they did. They were simply providing the service you’d expect at a slimeball used car lot.

I bought a new Vantage and paid 5 years warranty in advance in 2007 - the recession hit and I had to sell - the dealer promised the warranty was refundable - it was not.

I was told the warranty is only transferable if I traded to an Aston Dealer - not person to person - interesting to find I can sell with warranty directly to another person if need be.
I always keep my Astons under warranty

The extended warranty I purchased is specifically allowed to be transferable without any issues or limitations. I believe there’s a $300 charge but that’s about it. And if it isn’t used at all at the end of the expiration, it’s refundable as well. I thought it was a no brainer, I paid $4K approx for 2 years and 20,000 kms.

dealers will tell you just about anything to make a sale... sad that even with a brand like this they still lie their butts off

4 grand for 2 years and like 8000 miles? sounds like a rip off to me considering they don't even cover consumables like brakes or even a burnt out clutch

It's actually a pretty extensive warranty that covers everything except for the emissions system. Of course the consumables aren't covered by any kind of warranty new or old car. This is my first venture into owning a supercar so I was/am a little scared about it all so honestly for the peace of mind it was worth it to me. Also $4KCDN so make it the corresponding US figure. Prior to this I've only had brand new cars such as BMW's and Merc's so never had to worry about any of this.

I have the Aston Timeless Warranty on my MY19 Vantage. I think the warranty is complete trash. The one time I tried to use it I got endless aggravation from Aston and they turned it down. After three weeks and a lot of acrimonious discussions, including some legal threats, my dealer and Aston finally worked it out. Never again. ( By the way, it was about $4000 per year in the US.)

I had a problem with the ignition coils. A well known flaw in the design of the M177/178 engine apparently since AMG has redesigned them. If anybody else has an ignition coil issue, I started a rather extensive thread with photos on Pistonheads under AMG V8 water damage.

That sounds like a ****ty dealer. I never had a single issue with my warranty and even had things covered technically after expiration of it. Paid out handsomely considering the cost, as the replacement of the motors in the sideview mirrors alone was more money than the 1 year cost.

I am confident the dealer did everything they could on this issue. It was clearly Aston corporate that was the problem. After the dealer got nowhere with Aston corporate for two weeks I contacted Aston corporate in the US myself. Completely useless. Offered a 60% coverage as a “ courtesy” and said they thought they were being “generous”.

I don’t know when you had an issue but the company under Stroll is a pile of garbage. Customer service is non-existent if your dealer doesn’t take care of everything. The few times I’ve contacted Aston corporate in the past couple years has been a case of the inmates running the asylum and that’s when you can actually find a person working. Not a simple task given the musical chairs going on at the company.

I will never buy another product from this company while Stroll is heading it.

Now that part, I can believe. The time frame I was referring to was right before Stroll took over, so I can entirely believe that he's run a few (if not all) things into the ground.

Shame.

//edit

Forgot to ask- how did they justify not just covering it? I'm assuming you didn't ford a river... ;-)

//edit2

"I was shocked when Aston denied the claim saying it was caused by “water ingress” and not covered."

That is a whole bunch of nonsense. What difference does it make if it was caused by water ingress if it damaged something that shouldn't have been damaged by water ingress. Hah.
