Modified DBS- Review: Velocity AP Power Pack, Lowering Springs, Spacers, RedPants etc
Had some work done on my 2010 DBS Volante, since information on modifying is somewhat limited wanted to add my thoughts.
What was installed:
Velocity AP Headers
Velocity AP Secondary Cats
Velocity AP Touring Muffler
Velocity AP Tune
Redpants Airbox Deletes & Filters
Velocity AP Lowering Springs
20mm Spacers Front & Rear
Pagid RSC1 Front & Rear Brake Pads
Scrape Armor for Front Splitter/Bumper
LED License Plate & High Beam Bulbs
Stealth Front Turn Signal Bulbs
RedPants Front & Rear Light Smoked Sidemarkers
RedPants Dark Smoked Rear Reflectors
Changed all the fluids in the car as well
I have to thank Steel Wings in Warminster, PA for taking care of the work. Jon and his team were outstanding to deal with! The work was also performed in a timely manner and communication was there every step of the way.
Review:
Velocity AP Power Pack & RedPants airbox deletes/filters:
When I first picked up the car, I had a Quicksilver Supersport muffler installed (that had been on there from the previous owner). The car was way too loud with the VAP headers and secondary cats, unbearable to drive coupled with the Quicksilver muffler (which had sounded great previously on its own). So, I spoke with Stuart who recommended one of their mufflers to quiet things down. I went with their quietest option, the Touring model (primarily because the Quicksilver setup was so loud and I thought there’s no way a muffler is going to make a huge difference so quiet it down). The car is a little louder than the stock exhaust system at startup, idle and cruising, but as soon as you get on it the car screams and really intensifies in volume. It does have a higher pitch to it now which I attribute to the X-pipe design within the VAP muffler.
The headers/secondary cats/tune coupled with the Redpants airbox deletes and filters made a huge difference. The car feels much quicker (no dyno results sorry) and more responsive. It just flat out goes as soon as you get on it and pulls all the way to redline. The shop that installed the parts said there were no installation issues whatsoever. It was a time consuming install though as the front subframe has to come down, just a heads up for those considering!
The airbox deletes have created a much more noticeable intake/engine sound when on the gas. You can really hear the intakes up front, even with the exhaust screaming. I had read that others couldn’t hear any difference but it is definitely there on my car.
Velocity AP Lowering Springs, Scrape Armor, & Adaptec 20mm F&R spacers:
The 20mm spacers really made the car look much more aggressive. I do have 11mm H&R spacers I’m considering putting on the front as I think the front wheels are out maybe just a hair too much.
As for the springs, the ride quality feels like stock, so all good there. I was thinking there would be a little more of a drop compared to stock as you can see from the below pictures. If I had it over again I may have skipped the springs since I didn’t feel the difference is noticeable enough and there’s still some wheel gap, maybe Stuart can chime in if the car looks like it should. Since the front subframe came down for the headers and the springs were installed an alignment was done to bring it back to factory spec. The Scrape Armor gives some added protection (purchased in anticipation of the car being significantly lower) and you can’t tell its installed unless you’re looking under the car.
Pagid RSC Pads:
When I purchased the car a little over a year ago I knew that the pads would need replacing in the near future. The OEM pads on the car made a ton of noise and are also very expensive. I did some research and found the Pagid RSC1 pads. There is absolutely no noise coming from my brakes anymore! Nothing has changed with pedal feel or “normal” braking characteristics (this obviously isn’t a track car for me so can’t comment on how they’d perform there vs. OEM). Also replaced the handbrake pads while I was at it with Porterfields from Redpants.
LED Bulbs & RedPants markers/reflectors:
I was tired of looking at the orange/red markers and reflectors along with the dull license plate lights and orange egg yolk effect from the turn signal bulbs in the headlights. The RedPants markers are the light smoked version and the reflectors are dark smoked. They fit just like OEM and came with new bulbs (that are more white than orange, a good thing). I was really happy with how well the light smoked markers matched the grey surround of the tail lights. The license plate lights I ordered from superbrightleds.com . I also ordered a set of LED turn signal bulbs for the headlights but unfortunately they didn’t work out and made the turn signals blink quickly etc… I was able to find some “stealth” standard bulbs on amazon and they did the trick. While I was ordering the LED’s I also ordered a set of LED high beam bulbs since I thought the factory bulbs weren’t very bright. I have yet to drive the car at night so not sure what difference they will make.
Overall I’m very pleased with the modifications, everything worked out as planned. The only thing is that the engine light/ “service emissions system” message just popped up after a total of maybe 2 hours of driving since pickup. Codes P0171 P0174 and P1000 were registered. I cleared them last night and then took the car for a 30 minute drive today and it hasn’t come back. If anyone has any recommendations or has had any of these codes before let me know.
Other than the aforementioned the car is stock minus VCollection carbon tail light inserts, polished seat control covers, and LED trunk and interior lights. I’m hoping to do a few more small things including a carbon radiator/slam panel cover, glass buttons, and divinatech oil cap. I was going to black out the chrome trim, front grille, tail pipes but I think I'm going to leave it alone. For now just trying to enjoy the car!
Some pictures (tried to upload videos but they're not working for some reason):

That looks fantastic. I love the spacers although I agree the front ones stick out a little too much and wouldn't pass the MOT where I live.
How easy was it to change your headlight bulbs? I understand the units are not easy to remove but once you did, are they easy to dismantle to access the bulbs and any problems after you put it back together?

Thank you!
While I didn’t do the install it’s my understanding that both the high beam bulbs and the turn signal bulbs can be accessed once you remove the wheel well liners and air boxes. Should be fairly straight forward...
As mine, I validate/like the new sound from intake / delete airboxes... as a V12 carburettor engine !
But I disagree for the 20mm front spacers, I prefer stock/ without...

ENJOY 😃
Thanks Phil! Appreciate your help with the brake pads as well as the OEM back box and electric valve control!
very nice!
i can't say id recommend redpants though, not unless you confirm that they have the parts and can ship them first.
been waiting 2 weeks for a reply from the 10 emails ive sent, messages to both rich and redpants facebook pages and numerous phone calls.
as far as my experience has been they have NO communications after they've taken your money, and your probably better off sourcing parts from somewhere else even if it costs a little extra
